I have a rolling ball. When it lands on a pedestal entity, I need either entity to realise what it's collided with and activate a remote door.

The door part I can do. I can also do the collision with anywithinzone but this is not adequate as the ball will be hitting several other objects on the way, so I need it to detect specifically the name of just the pedestal it lands on...

Help much appreciated!

Just realised how I could do it...

Sort of

If the ball did damage to anything it hit, and everything EXCEPT the pedestal was invulnerable, then when the pedestal was destroyed (thats appropriate to the scenario) it would trigger it.

However now it would be useful to know how to make it do damage all the time to anything it hits...

Help with this or the other possibility greatly appreciated

If you set the physics force of the ball quite high, then it ought to do significant damage to whatever it hits. I assume you are using a physics object for the ball right?
