I just bought darkbasic original. Does it come with sound effects, ai stuff, and other stuff needed to make a decent game? I really dont want to buy anything else.

Well, yes, it sort of comes with sound effects...

In the program folder you installed DB in there should be a folder called 'media', which has a bunch of media for the numerous example programs in the DB help files.

About AI though...you kinda need to work stuff like that out yourself. There are great tutorials throughout the website. I recommend the Binary Moon tutorial, it's fantastic.

Good luck!

I have nearly finished a space sim game but needed in total ...

1. DB classic ($50)
2. Flaming pear space bundle ($50 for creating planets/nebulas etc)
3. Doga L3 (Free - 3D model creation)
4. Royalty Free sound tracks ($300)
5. Poser 7 ($300 for space models)
6. Paint shop pro (for image creation/modification - No idea how much this cost as it came installed on my work laptop)

So in total I've probably spent around AUS$800, but its been worth it.

But don't worry. If you are just beginning then you shouldn't need all of that stuff. I've been doing DBP for fun for years and don't have half of the stuff written there. In fact, when I had DarkBasic Classic, I didn't know about this forum at all so I didn't have anything besides Dark Basic at all. There's more than enough stuff that comes with DB to make a decent game

yes its packed with around 600 or so textures, and around 900 (mostly static) models. I recomend using dark edit though , its the windows editor and I think its pretty nice and use it for all my dbc projects. I suggest for right now (until your cd arrives) that you download the updates and start to work reading on the manual that comes with the 1.2 update which I might add is very well written. You dont have to have the compiler to read up on all the goodies you'll be getting but dont forget to actually apply the updates after you have installed it. Perhaps one of the best things
of all, is the forum here, it has the best guys in the world when you need help with something
