Wow. Thanks guys. I think that might be the most feedback I've ever recieved... this might take a while...
Quote: "i was kinda dissapointed that you stopped "Grand Theft Retro" but now that i look at these updates/screenshots I'm Not!"
LOL. I just figured I was never going to outshine GTA and that it might be better to try something more original.
@Plotinus
I'm going to go back and work on the explosions, I think expand then fade might be the way forward. It's a case of finding a middle ground between something that looks good and is FPS efficient!
And I'm sorry about the camera movement. I'll try and be less shaky in future!
@Ron Erickson
I think I will definately need some help. I've been running into problems between the code that performs limb rotations and the animation code. I occasionally get some very irratic results. It might just be that I'm not used to enhanced anim. I'm actually going to do a separate mini-game to learn how to use it propperly, before I put it into the game propperly.
Thanks for the offer of help though... will you check back here, or should I email?
Quote: "solid effort in the AI as well as graphic.
i love the comic book look.
I wonder how the player interacts with the action."
Thanks. It was a stylistic choice. I don't think DB is really built to handle all these sexy new shaders, and you have to sacrafice alot for the sake of something that looks "nextgen". I thought it would be fun to take it back to something different. I've been playing alot of megadrive/mastersystem games recently, and thats where the inspiration came from.
I have no idea for a new name yet! I might start a geekchat post for it! But not until it's done!
Quote: "I suggest you take the Halo route, and give the alien vehicles differently coloured explosions."
I'd considered that, and I think you're right. There's a post-it on the monitor saying "make massive aliens have blue explosions & add red particles to alien ship lasers". So that is all on the way... no fear!
Quote: "Bizar Guy has a point considering variety. Are buildings destroyable? Oh, and will there be civilian vehicles that do BOOM! as well?"
As I said, there will be a much greater variety of buildings. The current ones are just place markers until the gameplay is wired. The buildings are totally destroyable. It will be possible to completely level the map. I'm wondering about civilian cars. I think it's a possibility. The only issue with that is that if there are civilian cars then I've just
gotta let the player drive them, and that might spoil some other areas ofthe gameplay!!
Quote: "If you kill this one off, I will dedicate my life to building one of those alien bots to have you smashed, shot and tasered."
I'm actually building this for a competition, which deadlines in August, so it's gotta get finished! I have the blueprints for the robot somewhere, hold on I'll digit out... you will need a flux generator, which is relativelyhard to come by if you don't live on zargle5.
@Azunaki
Now I know what you mean. I think the updated explosions with expand, fade and smoke will be much more pleasing. I really appreciate the effort you went to to describe it though. Getting spikes to appear on the front is a bit of a nightmare, because the way the objects are shaded means they don't want to display geometry pointing straight at the camera.
I know there have been 2 or 3 posts recently that are asking about the gameplay. So, here's the Lowdown:
The game is a 3rd person sandbox action title. It's based on those games you used to play as a child, where all the different toys you had would have battles, you know.... lego VS GIJoe VS teddys etc.
In Survival Mode you play as an unarmed civilian, you have to guide other civilians to "Safe Zones" around the map, there is an overall population in the map, and you must rescue a certian percentage before they are killed/zombified etc.
In Toy Box mode you can select the number of baddies, the size ofthe city, and what you want to be (alien, human, zombie, trifid, whatever you like). Then you start up the game, and it randomly generates objectives for you to complete.
Oh, and just as a heads up... all the audio in the game is created orally!
I want robotic legs.
