Should I pay the extra $30 for Professional?

From the features for it, all the features I really need are in just the normal version of Dark Basic, and dont feal any growing need for the Professional features.

BUT...

Once I start really learning Basic, will I want those features?

Anyone want to offer me some help whos gone down this road? It would be greatly appreciated.

OK. First off, when you purchase either DB or DBPro, start out SMALL. Don't expect to make a game like Mario or Zelda or even Wow.

Here are some great tutorials:

3D Monster Hunt

Binary Moon

Those will teach you the basics of BASIC. Also keep in mind that this is a different dialect of BASIC. You can't use it in Visual BASIC Studio (to my knowledge anyway), it's specifically designed for DarkBASIC.

Secondly, I wish I had gone Pro. But honestly, DarkBASIC Classic (the $40 version) is quite powerful by itself. Since it's older, you don't need that much space on the computer, or the latest version of DirectX. It will still work with DirectX 7.0!!

Good luck man, and if you have any more questions feel free to email me at:

@Xzeleous

It's likely that most people that have used or own DarkBASIC Professional (DBPro) will prefer it over DarkBASIC Classic (DBC). Once you are used to more available features, it's hard to go backwards.

However, you can do a LOT with DBC. Even professional quality stuff.
Check out StarWraith 3D Games
Made with, you guessed it, DBC.
and
SoulHunter

If price is a real consideration and:

then DBC will probably suit your needs.

Enjoy your day.

Having tried both, honestly, I like classic better. Some of the pro features are nice, but what I like about classic is the ease of use. In pro (at least when I tried it), the compilation times were just slow enough to irritate. I am a programmer who tests his code A LOT (not to mention I am rather impatient) so you can imagine how that would bug me. Classic has fast load and execution times.

If classic has what you need, go classic. I did, and I have no regrets. The only reason I really want pro now is because TGC have all but dropped Classic, and now even their competitions usually aren't applicable to Classic users.

DBC is fine for the most part, sure it will hold you back or make certain projects difficult, but the only flaw with Classic ive found is lack of sprite rotation, but everything else in Classic is up to par
