Why are only certain modifications allowed? I hope this doesn't become a trend for future competitions...

EDIT: That was one of the reasons why I never finished my entry for the puzzle competition, besides not having quite enough time on my hands and being too easily distracted, I found that many of my puzzle ideas were burned or impossible with often trivial FPSC issues or the lacking of a simple modification/feature.

I don't think its really fair. Some people can't code, and if your going to say something about custom media, well that's not being judged on. With a mod though, you could add some cool camera effects or something that make it cooler. So its not really fair to others.

Plus its supposed to be an Fps Creator Competition. You could just recode the whole entire engine. Say its Fps Creator if mods were allowed.

@Airslide:
Quote: "Why are only certain modifications allowed?"

Well, This decision was based on the fact that IF a user was to use EFX or Xtasy (A graphics enhancing mod), then they would have..say a unfair edge on a opponent who wasn't using either of those Mod's. Any other MOD or source modifycation is allowed though. This is just to keep things fair.

CoZ

EDIT: Okay then guys, Enlight of the new comments, No MODS are permitted. This is to keep a fair edge on the comp for everyone!

I'm sorry, but I won't participate in any more competitions were mods aren't allowed. We went over this with the puzzle comp, and in the end it was decided that all future official competitions would allow mods. Even if custom media is decided, it DOES have an impact - the judges subconsciously prefer it, and it can have gameplay enhancements too - for example, usable turrets are only practical with a custom model, as are basic vehicles. Custom media also allows for unusual level design, as shown by Wizard of Id (I think that's who it was) with his special grates (which gave unique lighting effects), pillars, and half-height segments.

People complain that modding gives us an edge, because we can add "fancy eye-candy" or "special features". The truth is, custom media makes some of these things possible too. Where does that put those of us who focus on programming and not media-creation? And don't say scripting, we all know that it is horribly limited without a mod and it doesn't count as proper programming IMO. My puzzle competition entry was, as I stated already, broken because of some rather pitiful show stoppers that could be fixed in a line or two of modification.

EDIT: Obviously, this is your decision. But I'm sure many others would agree with my stance.

Tell me of one good model that increased game play without any modifications. I say script all you want, but outside mods are not even close to being fair. You have to have DBPro which some people do not have. Or you can have a pre-made mod, which still really isnt fair. Some people's pc can't handle it.

You can download Blender, and use Microsoft Paint all for free. Model everything you could possibly want for free. I can't write my own mod for Fps Creator, because I don't have DBPro.

I'm with RobertF on this one... Source Modding changes the whole capabilities of the Fps Creator, the Gameplay, can extend the Scripting Language, Graphics and so on, whereas Custom Models/Segments just make the Look of your Game unique.

But Media itself can't change the Gameplay or whatever. It's quite a Difference between the both.

Nice, is model pack 22 switchable? I already have it and I was wondering if it could be exchanged for one of the other Bond packs.

No. You sent me a email quite a while ago resigning from the DS Team, therefore you are no longer part of the team so to speak.

@nickydude: REALLY GOOD< but just a thing i dont like the fact that the blood writed letters "he is comming" is not realistic, it looks like it has a shadow on the wall. it looks like it is in the air, maybe it is the point of view that could bet it.. Or you could change it,
