instead of making four posts how about making 1 and editing it, anyway, the game looks good but are you sure you want to make it so the player can see the outside of the rooms?

come see night shift at http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=106003&b=25 see you there

You didn't have to, you just needed to use .jpg instead of .png.

GIMP treats pure black (RGB 0,0,0) as transparent when the image is saved as a .png, so the white background of your webbrowser shows through.

Last screen looks best, but they all look sort of unfinished and random.

edit the setup.ini file to get better shadow

use something like this:

lightmaptexsize=256
lightmapquality=256

if you have a nice computer then change both to 512 if you have a bad one decrease both to 128 or smaller

It should be (if you have a nice comp) lightmaptexsize=1024
lightmapquality=100.

Why does it look unfinished? because it's not confined like most FPSC games these days?

Because fpsc was meant to make indoor games.

Anyway, you can either argue or take advice. The fact is, the screens don't look very good. You have too many enemies in one room, which will cause lag and problems. Too many dynamic entities, and exploding ones. And you do not want people to be able to see that your level is floating, it looks bad. My suggestions: Ditch the whole outdoor thing, if you want outdoor, make it in small sections. Spawn enemies, only have one or two in a room. Get some light sources in there, and use good lighting. Lower the ambiance, and turn up shadows for better effects. Make the rooms smaller.

I actually liked the last outdoor screen (the one with a load of transparency). It has a kind of nice "Halo: Combat Evolved" feel to it. However it's the technical issues that may cause problems there.

YES there are too many dynamic entities. They are fun but lag out FPSC. I suggest to limit yourself to very few, strategically places dynamic entites or none at all. Also, add some large scale static entites to that wide open area.

There are also too many enemies. It's an absolute pain that FPSC really only allows one active enemy at a time if you want them all to work properly. I suggest you use trigger zones to trigger the enemies as the player moves through the level so that there will generally only be one active enemy at a time.

You frame rate is going to die. What are your specs and what is the average FPS?

Yeah well this game was mase to have as much space to spread around in as Halo. I mean seriously, tiny games with tiny rooms w/2 enemies in it just doesn't look professional, so, daramic, I don't care what I am going to make it this way weather you like it or not. I mean, the FPSC games out dont really contain the graphics, shaders, and VAST, I MEAN HUGE, level design that I like. O yeah, and, Shatterpoint: Blood Dawn comes in three selectable graphics settings, and each one has a lower resolution,as well.

ok...what do you expect the framerate to be then? and if you want a professional looking game made in FPSC without lots of enemies and huge maps look at ELE. CoZ's shaders look next gen(better than most games) and if you succeed in your attempts at this i applaud you and i'm sure everyone here will do the same.

If you test game you will see an overlay at the bottom of the screen. One part will say:

F: and then a constantly changing value. This is your frame rate. Tell us what it is.

If you game lags at all then you need to cut it down, remove objects that aren't necessary. As a player trying to play a laggy game is terrible.

Here is another screeny. Thank you Cosmic Prophet for the troopers. They totally rock! I just had to well, you know, modify them to fit the game.this is the beginning of the level that you all love and say looks like Halo. I want this game to be as high quality as it would be in x10 but if your computer can't handle that, the game will have three graphics settings, low effects and 800x600 resolution, medium effects and 1600x1200 resolution, and high, full effects and 1280x1024 resolution. The screeny is in high. I just don't want to leak the storyline because it's way too complex and has too many twists and turns to put in words.

Incase you missed that.

Also, the screen is fuzzy because you've converted it to jpeg format which blends the colours and makes the picture smoother. This works for real-life pictures but generally doesn't work so well with graphics etc.

There is a way to take screens from ingame. Press F12 and they will be saved in your FPSC directory as BMP. Then just open in paint and save as jpg. I just did that with this image and it's fine:

My guess is your using gimp and it is setting black and white to transparent or something.

Okay dude, I tested the game on low,(it still looks great)and it maintains a steady frame rate of 15. I just tested it heres the screeny. I'm going to put it in bmp just because I want you to see the true unglitched beauty of this game even on low.

Here are some screenshots of the other two parts of this mission. They are unfinished, so, don't state the obvious.

I honestly am not going to waste time downloading them. Just convert them with paint... it's the easiest way.

And on low you had a frame rate of 15? That is unplayable I'm afraid. You might be quite happy to but I (and others) will most certainly not. Do you know what an acceptable frame rate is? 30, double what your getting now. If you want to keep with the outdoor look, read up on hints and tips to keep the lag down. Look up "He is coming" which was a large free-roaming horror map.

Okay well that's not saying much because my computer literally sucks. I'm on the min. system requirements of fpsc.
