C++ Express edition is free to use but I'm not sure about selling games made by it. You can also use Dark Gdk developed by The Game Creators but it requires a license to sell Commercial games.

I would imagine they are free (sort of). The trick is that you need to get a compiler, which sometimes cost. However there are some free ones out there.

Google is your friend - and so is search. At the top of the programming talk board is a sticky called free programming resources.

Should answer all your questions - yes, you can get C++ compilers for free, although I've never used them and so have no idea if they're any good. You might want to ask on the other board if you're interested in learning...

C++ and C aren't owned by anyone, however some compilers are. You should check out Code::Blocks if you're interested-- It's an intuitive and feature-rich IDE that comes with a wxWidgets WYSIWG editor built-in, and it has no license or anything attatched to it. It's completely free and open source. If you download it, make sure you get the C::B/MinGW bundle (MinGW is the compiler).

Also, there are plenty of resources of on the internet for C/C++, the best of which is of course http://www.cplusplus.com which has an article for everything about both languages and the STL.

It also depends on what you want to do. Microsoft makes everything proprietary and customized so it's almost impossible to use the DirectX SDK without using their own compiler. Soon I'll bet the WinAPI won't even be able to be used without Microsoft's products.

Anyway, one of my favorite IDEs - check out:

Dev C++

Enjoy your day.

I <3 Dev C++, although I haven't really used it... But it's great, and I second Latch on that. ...Just time to get down to learning C++ first might help...

Dev-C++ is old and disused. I do not recommend it at all-- Code::Blocks is updated regularly and has all of the features you'd ever need for an IDE. Including a WYSIWYG wxWdigets editor.

It also has the ability to save your workspace and allows you to work on multiple projects at once among other things.

It's always treated me right! I'll have to take a look at Code::Blocks . It sounds interesting.

Enjoy your day.
