Ok, so I have a version of dark basic purchased circa 2001 (according to the readme.txt file, it's version 1.08) There is no version number on the software itself, so it's only via the readme.txt file (the history section) where I can get a version number)
Anyway, I had initially bought both the 3d game creator, and dark basic in order to build games for visually impaired users (since I am myself) Unfortunately, this didn't work out. DB has all the directX sound controls required for complete audio gaming, but it's editors and such were not compatible with screen reader technology (no doubt the final games would be if written properly), but I gave up and put the cds away, and completely forgot about them.
Now, enter 7-year old son and 4-year old daughter. They found the cds, and asked me if we could install them.
We did, and though the 3d game creator works beautifully (with the exception of display issues on windows xp on anything but space and horror settings) I see on the forums that there are later versions of both direct basic (expected) and the 3d game creator, (since there are additional packs now included with the game creator that are not able to be purchased anymore), I'm wondering, how do I go about updating both the 3d game creator, and my copy of dark basic so that my children can get the full experience and benefit of these great pieces of software?
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
