I have been modeling with Metasequoia for about a year now, however it has many limitations (can't animate or texture). So should I change to gmax or another program and start from the beginning again?

The reason I suddenly what to change is because I creating a level in Met. and can't UV the textures well.

I downloaded gmax and hell is it confusing. Each toolbar menu thingy has about 30 different options.

One thing I don't like about gmax is that I couldn't find a grid sort of thing. So instead of nice vertex cordinates like 6,4,10 they are like 6.243668, and basically I think its messy. Is there a way to make it more acurate (without the decimals).

Anyway what I'm after is some advince on wether to change modeling software after using one from a long time.

Thanks

Gmax can get confusing. It really depends on what youre modelling. I have 3dsmax3.1 but I have been using Milkshape trial version and it's a little less complicated and you can still do very cool stuff. Milkshape 3d is free for a month then it's like $20 to register - give the trial version a try.

peace

I think Metasequoia is an excellent program and if you're used to it,keep it close. It doesn't matter if it can animate, texture or not there's always the possibility to create in it and export to GMax for level design.

Yes,it is called the Autogrid, you may also enable the 'Snap' option button close to the Pan and Arc Rotate button,Right-Click it to get the Menu for choosing the snapped elements.

Gmax's UVMapping is good,if you're stuck you can always ask here or on http://www.gmaxsupport.com
You can also install a game pack such as Tempest for q3 levels.

You could also try truespace out. version 3.2 is free for download, just do a search on google.

Truespace does everything, animates,textures,models.

The first 3-4 hours are really tough. But just stick with it, and you'll be modeling in no time.

Ok, thanks, I guess I will stick with metasequoia . Now I have a second question though. Is there a program that could import an object and automatically do BSP style UV?

I'm thinking of cartography shop, though can it import objects?

Thanks
