For making the levels and world geometry, is it feasible to just use Max, import to Cshop to lightmap it and then import that into DBPro? I'm a big Max user so I'd love to use it as much as possible for world/characters/items, effects, etc.

Might want to look into Valve Hammer Editor 3.4. You can compile worlds as bsp files that load directly into DBPro (don't get patch 5 yet, use latest version of 4x) BSP's allow faster framerates and the collision is built in. Then you can use MAX or other 3d programs for models/animation to incorporate into the world.

Just MHO tho

cool, sounds like it's worth checking out. Does Valve Hammer work similiar to CShop, where you can place lights, properties, etc as well?

Yes, infact CShop is based on Hammer. They are both extremly easy to use. Though Hammer can be difficult to setup (though u can't complain, it is free). And in the end they both can comply to the same file (.bsp) which has automatic-fast-sliding collision in DBPro. Unfortunatly they do take forever to save and load them.

Never used CShop here so...

As far as VHE3.4 Look for the Ultimate BSP thread (sticky) in this section. Use the instructions in first post but check my post way near the end before attempting to set up VHE3.4

post if needs help

I use a 3d model made in 3dsmax, mainly cos the bsp collision methods are completely rubbish (falling through floors and odd bugs like that). I dont recommend using Hammer if you're making a commercial project cos there's licence issues (i think it costs £5000 to use the bsps commercially).

Once you start down the Dark Path, forever will it dominate your destiny...

how do you light the level after you make the model in Max? I played around with cshop and it seemed simple but easy to use, but do I have to make a bsp out of that before I can use it in dbpro? (still going through tutorials right now and haven't gotten that far yet). I was thinking of making a Super Monkey Ball type demo to start and was seeing what I needed to you have to tilt the whole level for the gameplay)

I had that game on GameCube and was almost done with it (a lot of hard work and patience) until my darn memory card took a dump! I lost the whole thing and never played again
