It's getting close, soon the wonders of Halloween will be upon us.

This Compo is simple, create anything that fits in a Halloween theme.

No poly limits, contest will run till October 27th.

Have fun and you winners from the last compo are honor bound to defend your titles.

Cheers!

I'm not losing my title so easily.

But I'm stumped as to what to make...

This should be interesting.

im working on a bone scythe im just polishing the line art now
Edit: Im adding a spine to it so its going to be a bit longer then its off to photoshop to make it all fancy

as a general explanation of what im planning on doing i am going to model the Scythe in several parts that you will see as i move forward in the process (ill try to remember to document it)
i am going to model the scythe blade, shaft, jaw, skull, and spine as seperate models and then put them together before sending them off to zbrush. There i will give the bones some more attention. Then i will use the retopology tool to make as lowpoly of a mesh as i can manage and hope for the best.

warning i cant spell

I guess me, and what little 3D skillz I have, will take a stab at this. Just gotta decide if I wanna make something that fits into the "dark" side of Halloween or something that fits into the "fun" side...

Like the last compo we are going with one thread to make things easier. Just mention "This is my final Entry" when you feel you have done all you can with your model, or when you think you can't add more or finish it.

We'll manage to follow the posts and gather the entries for the judging.

Cheers! Have fun!

ill be impressed if i finish too, though i never promised it would be textured, and i have a couple phases that i can stop and submit the model if i find things get too busy for me in RL that said i will attemt to make as bad@%% of a scythe as possible

If i did it once i can do it again (Do you see what "eye" see Sept 09)

well i think ive decided on the base idea(not my image btw) from a quick google search. although i don't really want to model a full skeleton so i doubt i will have the center open. wings will be last becasue im not sure i'll have time to do them i'll start on this tomorrow since its getting rather late.

i think im going to push aside my learning of 3ds max for this though...
eh if i finish this it'll be worth it.

I'll have a go at this one I suppose, and seeing as it's halloween themed I figured to make a murder weapon.
I've got a start on the high poly right now.

I love Halloween, so this contest is perfect. After some brainstorming I've made a decision on what to build...

..the Headless Horseman.

I'm pulling out all the stops and I've just loaded 3ds Max 2010 and Zbrush on my PC.

Must gain title back.

@Alucard - nice start! Looks like a cross between a katana and Count Dooku's light saber.

Really looking forward to what everyone can make of this competition!

Added some more fancy details to the high poly, not necessarily from the reference but I felt like they fit.
I also wonder if I should just texture the text or actually have it slightly sunk in as I have now.

since i dont want to waste too much more time on the concept im not going to go though all of the art involved in drawing the spine so i just outlined its aproxamate location

Next is modeling, in the concept the scythe accidentally was shifted down and is clipping with the jaw, im not going to take the time to fix it but just wanted to point that out

If i did it once i can do it again (Do you see what i see Sept 09)

@Pincho Paxton: Better than I would have done! (IMO the witch would look more "witch-like" if the clothes were black), and Dragon Assassin, awesome design

The clothes will be a separate model, those are just faces that aren't seen, so I didn't paint them.

ok well since my drawing skills are about 0 i decided to scratch drawing up a front and side view and just modeled a human to mold it around... i figured it was an acceptable alternative. but it could almost be its own stand alone model has a few flaws i might finish it up and release it after the comp though any way to show ive been doing something.

Are there any rules concerning gore? If there isn't, I was considering doing a bucket full of severed heads.

I'm working on Swordfight again! Come tell me what you think!

Mines finished. A bit Photoshopped with the background, but nevermind. I could've put the background on a plain, but I was in a hurry.

Beauty shots are allowed, basically, the more images of your model at different angles lets us better analyze the model and texture. The best solution would be to attach your model and texture. I'm not saying that it's 'required' but is sure helps if you are hoping to win best model. The problem with an image with only one view is it's possible to texture a 2d plane and render it and we couldn't tell if it was true 3D.

When you make a model, it never hurts to add background items or backdrops to give the render more life. Who knows, if enough people start building mini scenes to showcase the main model we may have to add a 'Best 3D Scene' award.

Most of all have fun, keep up the good work, so far lots of interesting starts.

Cheers!

Kicking about a few ideas and since well i know time is against me, i decided to create a sword from my recent 'carve' list.

This one is my own design and has four attack animations. The texture is not on it due to the fact i had a single hour on this.

500 polies.

Sword animation link,

Download is attached, along with a make shift texture.
