Hi all,

Well after a bit of tweaking tonight I have finished off phase 1 of the CodeBase and uploaded it all for testing.

You can now create CodeBase entries, modify your Profile, upload file and generally test things out.

When I am happy you're not all breaking it I will open up Phase 2 of the CodeBase which is allowing people to search the CodeBase and listing the current entries on the Developer Network site. I don't want to do that until you all confirm it works the way you expected it to.

The "View" button within the CodeBase list page shows you how the entry will look to everyone else. Click the title of an entry to edit it.

Here's an example entry:

http://darkbasicpro.thegamecreators.com/?m=codebase_view&i=c5b5ad1927b4f14711602fa9ada30ab5

So there we go.. almost made the deadline, just 4 hours late I'll sticky this thread until feedback has finished.

Oh and I also made a significant change to the rest of the site today that should stop all of the header graphics from reloading. They should now all cache properly in your browser and thus make page rendering a hell of a lot faster.

Cheers,

Rich

I could only seem to add 2 items - when adding a third, it seemed to add, but doesn't appear on the list.

A slight problem on my part, I've added an entry but the 'Long Description' doesn't appear when you click on the View button, Is this something I've done or is it not working yet?

Yet to test it out but your one looks great Rich

On a different note, has the bug that just shows the first download you've downloaded instead of all of them been fixed yet?

@Rich,

I've spotted a few problems, mostly to do with the fact that I have scripting error detection enabled. I've sent shots of the errors to you via email.

4 pieces of code added correctly, one with an attachment, all with no problems. Editing works well too

Still cant add a third bit of code unfortunately - unless the other two are taking up all the space.

There is no space limit, you can add as many as you like. I currently have 6 saved.

TCA - Does your third code entry have a unique title? The titles need to be unique although it should give you an error message if you don't do this.

Ian - I'll disable the Javascript sorting of columns, it's a damn shame because it works bloody well.

The "Long Description" doesn't appear on the View page yet. I'm thinking I'll make the view page have 3 tabs - one being the code + summary, one being the screen shot and the final tab being the long description - what do you all reckon?

Re: The downloads list only showing one item. It doesn't, it shows all unique downloads, at least for me anyway. I'll have to look at your download logs to see what you've actually downloaded to see why it doesn't display them for you.

Cheers,

Rich

I presume it was trying to sort an empty list. Can't you just check before sorting?

Personally I'd like the long description to be part of the code viewer, but I don't know how 'long' the descriptions are going to be, so...

The JS sorting code came from some site I found, it could well error on there too. I'll just disable it, it's not that useful on the codebase anyway.

Yes, the code I'm trying to add has a unique name - no error appears unfortunately.

'just a search'? After a couple months, 'all the code in the codebase' will no doubt be tens of pages long. It might be useful, but a search would also be neccessary.

Yep, I just downloaded another thing from the showcase and although when I check my Profile it says:

Quote: " Downloads
We keep track of the files you download incase you need one again.

9 files downloaded "

But now when I click the link it shows only 2 of these 9 downloads: Update 5 and Sync to the Music (from the showcase):

Quote: "You have downloaded 2 unique files from our server
File Size First Downloaded Grab It
Sync to the Music 0.84MB 30th Aug 03 11:23pm
DarkBASIC Professional Upgrade 5 8.98MB 22nd Aug 03 9:35am

You have downloaded 9.82 MB worth of files from our server"

Note it says I've downloaded 2 on this page. Mind you I can't even remember downloading 9 files, it may actually be a counting error of some sort. Wait let me check something.

Ahh, I see the problem now, it counts Cancelled downloads as downloads also. Not sure if this is a bug or the way it's meant to be.

Exeat, I'm not sure it would be possible for it to track that. It'd have to update the list every time you got more data from a file you were downloading... very very slow!

I agree, and I think that most other forum download systems use the same method. Once you click, it's incremented.

Yeah, I mean it's counting downloads of the same file. I wasn't sure if it was meant to be unique or not.

Exeat - the totals should count unique downloads, I'll sort that out. The downloads page itself does this correctly, but the main welcome page might not.

I would prefer the long description on the first tab displayed. A description will mean far more, far quicker than reading the code.

It will also help establish whether parts of the code may be of assistance, whereas the general purpose of the code may be irrelevant. For example, I don't want a flight navigation system, but that little radar function would be nice. This would be apparent, I hope, by the long description.

I've narrowed this down (thanks to IanM) and it will only not add code if you attach something to it. No attachment and it'll add fine. You can then edit it an attach things, so it's purely in the first uploading area that it dies.

I've not had a chance to work on this all week but I'll resolve this bug on Monday, too many other things to finish first.

Cheers,

Rich

So does it work for you now?

@Rich, the welcome screen shows 8 entries for my codebase, but I have only 7. I did delete that test entry though and that may still be included in the count.

No idea... I'll try now - hang on.

Well, the good news is my computer works...
The bad news is I couldn't add a third piece (I filled in the Code Title, Short Description and Source code, left everything else as default - no attachments), and it didn't add - it just returned back to the add form.

Anyway, I dont think it'll get fixed until Monday.

Rich, since the update of the Code Base update, which I think was in the last day or two, I've found a bug, although I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before. If I goto the Profile Edit option on the CodeBase page and modify my profile description, i.e. about myself for other people to see when viewing a codebase entry, the following page errors occur when I hit the update button...

Warning: session_start(): open(/tmp/sess_4b59cf7c4b315addb6f6cd3625288287, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /u2/www/users/pairdoor/tgc/modules/module_common.php on line 75

Warning: Unknown(): Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in Unknown on line 0

Thats it really. Also, I've mentioned this before but the detailed project description text entry does not appear on the codebase entry page when you click the View, should it be displayed?

Warm regards,

Paul.

Apex - yeah I know about this. The error will actually follow you around the site as well (appearing at the bottom of every page). The problem is I'm using a CGI wrapped version of PHP4 in order to upload the images (otherwise they're owned by "nobody" on the server which means we have no access to erase them, etc - it's a Unix thing). The CGI version of PHP doesn't have the ability to pick up the session the Apache compiled version the rest of the site uses. So basically it's getting in a huff because it has no rights to create new sessions. I know exactly how to get around this and will do so next week.

Cheers,

Rich
