Out of all 3D modelling programs, (ShareWare, Ones you pay for etc.) Which one do you think is the best program for creating Characters, Creatures, and Objects(Medieval Weapons, Guns, Cars, Planes, Common house objects.).

Because I need a program that I can use to create realistic models/objects, and one that can animate them.

Note: I am very, very, very NEW to Modeling.

Thank you all in advance for you help.

The 'best' is always relative. I like free and cheap tools since this is a hobby for me. DoGA CGA is the bomb for starships, mecha, and non-character objects. Metasequoia is a fine low level editor. Milkshape has excellent import/export routines and animation support. This trio does everything I need for $20.

I'm sure that other people have their favorite sets of tools as well.

Wings is good for fast quick modeling

Milkshape is good for more advanced models, animation

3D Canvas bad learning curve, but when you get good with it, can do amazing stuff, animation is great.

Anim8tor Never really got into it but I know alot of people like it

GMAX 3DS MAX lite basically, really good, only good for shareware/freeware because if you use it for commercial you have to pay or something. Check discreets site.

I know im missing one of the common ones.

Havnt tried the ones that zircher recommended. OMW to search for them now.

DoGA CGA uses a parts based metaphor that is a lot like playing with virtual Technics or Legos. Parts have color coded 'handles' for rotation, scaling, and positioning. L1 is really basic learning stuff. L2 adds more features. And, L3 has a fair amount stuff including the ability to add custom parts and textures. (L1 is free, L2 and L3 are shareware, but you only need to register if you want to make movies.)

Metasequoia is a lower level editor than DoGA CGA, but you can use it to make parts for DoGA (SUF files) or write directly to .X format. (free)

Then of course there are the big hitters, Lightwave, Max, and Maya. These are the pinical of modeling, they are used in movies and video games alike (Maya being the most used). However the downside is the price, Lightwave is about $1500, while both Max and Maya run at least $3000.

Actually, you can get Maya for free quite legally. Alias|Wavefront have an edition they call "Personal learning edition. It is availible right here.

They SAID that given enough time a million monkeys with typewriters could recreate the collected works of William Shakespeare... Internet sure proved them wrong.

Of course I prefer 3d Studio Max, but only because I'm used to it and know its quirks. I even got that one for free, legally, since I got it trough my job.

Both Maya and 3d Studio Max make modelling quite easy. The tough part is animation and texturing. It's easy, very very easy, to botch it in both programs. But then again, you need to know what you are doing in all programs.

True, but you can't sell anything that used it, same with Gmax.

I don't think it's a question of selling anything if you're new to modelling. It takes time to become a good modeller. It takes even more time to be a good animator.

While you're learning, you can use the "best" tools, i.e. the ones with the most functionality -- that is Maya PLE or GMAX. I don't know if the other big hitters have free learning editions.

Then, when you're knowledgeable, you can decide if you want to buy, or you can choose the shareware software -- and come to them with a lot of knowledge of modelling or animating.

Softimage Xsi Exp is free and save enabled plus I gotta say that the watermark is much more discrete as MayaPLE's.

Have a look at Nendo which is rather cheap and is part of the Mirai family which considerably redefined modeling methods over the last years.
