Hello Everyone,

I understand DBPro has some enhancements in the 3D Department such as Bump Mapping, Lightmapping, Cartoon Shader, Sphere Mapping, and Metallic Shading. I was wondering if I could achieve some of this in my DBC creations by using a 3d modeling program that provides some of these features? DBC doesn't have the commands for these features, the models would be created with those things mentioned in the first sentenced above and of course the features would be created within the 3d modeling program and then imported into DBC.
By importing these models into DBC will it degrade the quality of models and textures based on the features mentioned in the first sentence? And by achieving this I would get some good quality out of DBC and it would almost be as good as DBPRO when it comes to graphics.

This isn't possible. If you added a bump map to an object in say 3D Studio, that bump map will only actually effect the object when you render it (within 3D Studio). It will not appear "bump mapped" within DBC. That's just not how it works, sorry. Same goes for all the effects you listed.

Cheers,

Rich

I understand that Texture Maker has bump mapping effects, and description of it says it can improve the textures for game creations and make it look a whole lot better. Basically, from what you were saying is bump mapped objects only keep the effect within the 3D program there rendered from but couldn't be imported into DBC that way. But since Texture Maker is compatible with DBC, is it possible then using the bump map function and have it take affect in my projects?

I guess if the texture maker alters the texture itself using the bump map, then of course you'd be able to use it with DBC.

Brains are for idiots.

No, Texture Maker creates a Normals map for bump mapping. You don't have the command required in DBC to apply a normals map to an object in order to have a bump mapping effect. It's just not possible.

Using Texture Maker to turn a texture into one that looks bump-mapped (but, from a technical point of view isn't), is more possible. But the object won't actually be bump mapped at all.

Cheers,

Rich

i think maybe it is possible...for max user maybe...coz there is something called texture baking in max that can bake all diffuse, light, bump(simply say complete map)in one texture...i think it is possible!

Yes this is what I was talking about when I said you could edit the texture to fake the effect. But it won't really be bump mapped - the texture will not change depending on the position of lights for example, it's just a flat texture.

Texture Maker is a good program, and if I could use it to get near quality of a bump mapped effect when its not actually bump mapped I'm good to go. Like I said from the description of the software, its claimed to enhance textures for game creation.
All in all thanks for the input.
