From what I can see, it seems that there's no way to have a multi-level alpha-channel in an object/image/sprite. OK - so sprites can be alpha-blended in and out - but not on a per pixel basis.
Is this really the case? Or am I being dim, and missing something?
If it _is_ true, what's the best channel (no pun intended!) to use, to lobby for the inclusion of this feature?

, and I just can't stand "jaggies" in my alpha-channels. Besides, objects don't seem to support transparent polys at all! *gasp*
