Nice. Reminds me of Quartet on the ST, which was one of my favorite music packages ever.

This is very handy though, having midi editing like that - either for taking a midi file and editing it, making new songs, or borrowing from midi files for your own songs / remixes. I had a midi file a while ago that I wanted to remix, and they can be quite awkward things, I think this program would have made it a lot easier - in the end I relied on an actual musician. The sheer volume of midi files out there, old game soundtracks, cover versions, classical music... it's a great resource and this looks to be a great way to get at them properly.

Did you get it onto AppUp yet?

Nah, BatVink likes to use that email address - people get us confused sometimes, might be because I'm a conjoined torso, living on his lower abdomen, a bit like Total Recall.

My addy is listed there if you still want to send it - I'll happily try it out - there are tons of songs out there I'd like to pick apart and learn from, and they are all out there as midi files so I certainly have a use for it.

Wow, this is amazing, I just imported some midi's and it works like a charm!

But, one song I imported gets distorted on some notes and creates a humming sound that lasts until you stop the song. I have attached the midi file that I imported and the QMidid Studio File that I saved from it.

@Nova

edit:April 5,2010

Thanks for the song file that exposed a problem i didn't find before.

Some Notes:
-Alot of the notes this song plays are out of range (Not being displayed) **but not the problem**

The editor will still play these notes that are loaded out of range.

However the problem is infact that there are some notes that are so close together in this song....that they are infact missed when it comes time to shut them off. To test this i Imported the song at (30) instead of the autodetected (60)... No notes stick on at (30) and i found there was infact a butt load of notes tied soo closely together that it was still loading 32nd notes at (30) wich is a crazy crazy resolution. But no worries.... i fixed it!

YourSong: re import the original midi file @ the autodetected (60).... the qm3 is corrupt with bad data...lol! as you heard it play!

Thanks Again!

@van b.... The download is the same screen resolution so you can tell me if this one runs well on your netbook if ya like. Maby you could help me get this on appup.... I'll give you a free full copy aswell if you dont mind helping me set it up for appup.

I will add testing of the midi export and wav recording back into the editor in the next few days.... I seen it was very easy to hack the original so im making some modifications.....

For now the editor can import midi and save/load in its native format.

I will make an anouncement once i add the testing of those back in.

In the past few weeks ive been working on a digital track interface to allow users to play back and record there midi with real sounding instruments.... I've Done some testing and it just sounds amazing! With this new feature called (DTS) it will enable the ability to add more instruments to the current 128 available!

I will post a comparison MidiFile vs MidiDTS to showcase how much of a difference there realy is.

To make room for the new format there will be libraries to download new instruments in the next few months. These will mostly replace the 128 available to real sounding instruments.

I will post a MidiDTS recording later tonight!

So any feature updates to qmidi will have SMD3D Interactive as the programming team.

That would be cool if i could use this icon as you have probably noticed i lack the ability to draw well. but i am learning as i go.

Thanks!

I just wanted to post some news about the receint update i made to Qmidi Studio.

Qmidi Studio's digitaly recorded instruments have been redone on version 1.5 to allow users to play there music in the background when the program does not have focus.
I've also rewritten the loops editor completely.

The download size is back down to 10megs.... whew! except you will need to download the digitaly recorded instruments seperatly. If you have old dts files they will no longer work with this update. Im actively working on releasing more instruments that work with it downloadable on my website.

Download the latest 1.5 software here:

Great program SMD I had something like this before but lost it in a crash and haven't been able to find one that has the same ease of use. This maybe the ticket. Just a few problems. Why do some of the notes from imported midis not show up. It all plays but there is no notes to edit. Also the copy and paste feature is a bit odd. I cant seem to get it to work

Either way I will be buying this in a day or two. Great work!

@ SMD - does this mean I could convert a piece of music in to midi and import it and it grabs the notes?

This looks great for the money... think I will buy...

I can vouch for this too. It's a very useful bit of kit. I'll be using it for my games definitely as I also love making music.

I haven't had a chance to get a lot of use out of it yet but I can't wait to really use it properly.

i just released a quick update to the editor again.....its still labeled as 1.5 accept it includes direct x and removes the temp files after install.

Quote: "Also the copy and paste feature is a bit odd. I cant seem to get it to work"

im going to see if i can make it better.... basicaly you click on the copy command... drag the cursor over the notes and then press copy or cut. now the paste button will light up and you can click that and start pasting it.... or you can save those selected notes to a loop file.

Quote: "SMD - does this mean I could convert a piece of music in to midi and import it and it grabs the notes?
"

the program can only import midi files.... however you can import a file in and change the way its scaled into the screen as well as load patch instrument files in as you probably heard sound amazingly better then normal midi.

I'll be releasing more patch file this weekend.

Anyother help i can provide let me know....

Oh 1 thing about a midi file that you loaded that didnt display some notes...(small trick)

if you select a chunk of notes.... hit copy then scroll your mouse wheel down or up to see the notes displayed. edit it then scroll it back up out of the screen into the right position. The copy tool will select the notes that are out of range as well.

when recording music to a wav file i find it best to have you volume control at 50% but it may very on each pc so your wav doesnt sound distorted.

Feedback definetly welcome...but remember its in testing and development stages yet.

Also the recording is a tad choppy as it looks alot smoother on my pc.

i thought it would be fun to try making a 3d composing / playback / editting enviroment as i see nothing like this out on the market.

Also did you watch my video on the copy paste tool? Hopefully it helps....and the glitch i found i will have fixed shortly.

Would anyone be interested in the program that makes the recorded patch instruments?

Basicaly its designed to sample an external keyboard.... i would hafta make some good documentation with it.
