To let everyone know Immortal has been banned.

He has claimed all sorts of models as his own and caught to have distributed a ton of media on another website made by TGC authors illegaly.

I HIGHLY doubt these are his either.

*sigh* This happens at least once a week. You'd think people would learn.

edit:
Kraven reported to the BSA! Good for him! I back him up 100%. I know in the states you can get a 300k fine and 10 years in prison for stuff like what they were doing on that site...frakin idiots.

I reported that website to BSA and Copynot. I also contacted Megaupload and reported several torrent files on their services.

I probably would have let this go with just a report to the BSA or let TGC handle it, until I registered there, commented on a moderator's post who was hosting a competition with illegal torrents as prizes (a moderator!) to kindly remove the illegal content as they do not have my permission nor Errants, and the moderator deleted both of my comments and banned my account!

Now, another part time hobby of mine will be ensuring the downfall of their website, and possible legal action against the moderators that support it, and uploaded my content in the first place.

Jeeze, mods encouraging pirating...then when they are found out, trying to get rid of all evidence.

Hopefully TGC and Errant along with yourself can take legal action.

Good luck.

United States. Sorry, I know sometimes peps use the term 'states' to describe someplace in Europe I believe?

I watched a Dateline special on a person who used to copy programs and distribute them to his coworkers. He ended up with the $300k fine and 10 years behind bars.

Its an encentive not to be stupid. Cant say ive had a perfect track record, no one really can. (nothing serious) But this is actually unbelivable. Not only did he use the same screen name, but he posted the link to the site...

WTF? I found the modern day example of a Real idiot. This will be legendary.

Just to clarify, my actions are not aimed towards immortal; rather the website owners running that forum and supporting it's illegal content. I think it sent me over the edge when I asked a moderator there to remove my assets that he was giving away, and he simply deleted my posts, and banned my account. Today, I'll be calling the BSA and Copynot to see if I can speed up this entire process. I'll not only be showing them my content, but every other artist's assets that are being illegally handed out.

Quote: "i dont think u should be punished that hard really, tbh"

I'll admit $50,000 or jail time, etc is a little extreme. Though they do need to receive some sort of adequate punishment. If someone uploads a torrent, and it gets reported and taken down; what happens? That person will most likely put up two more to take it's place. But if that same person is fined $10,000 for ripping several models that only cost $2.00 or $3.00 in the first place, it's a pretty safe bet that he or she won't do it anymore, and will feel stupid having done it in the first place. In the very least, I hope to see the website shutdown.

What really gets to me, is out of all of the free assets I've provided to everyone, there are still people that decide to rip the ones that I make a small profit from. And after me asking them to remove them, I get a ban.

Piracy it's against the law, but I think personnaly it's nothing compared a guy planting a bomb in a school or another guy profaning tombstones(it's just examples). :/

Well, obviously not. But that doesn't mean it should go unpunished. If all everyone ever got for doing something wrong was a slap on the wrist for any crime, do you think anything would change?

I don't enjoy seeing my work given away illegally without any regards to myself, or the honest people that had to pay for it. Especially considering the amount of free assets I have already made available without asking for anything in exchange. That to me, is like a spit in the face. And I plan to spit back.

DUH! of course its not like putting bombs in a school.
Thats stupid to say. But it is worse than profaning tombstones.
People who do thats are just idiots and really no harm is done. But people who pirate stuff HURT PROGRAMMERS, MODELERS and so on.
They take away from their paychecks.

Nuff said.

nobody said that. i just said that the punishment is too big, and i also said it is not a discussion to be brought up here, there is a geek section and there is where this discussion is to be held.

i really wouldnt mind that much if someone copied my game/models, as long as they dont claim it as their own, since thats where it is really disrespectful. if someone ripped my game/models i would be happy(ofc i would feel like someone stole my wallet, but happy at the same time because someone liked my work so much so they "stole" it.)

Come on. I don't find that a fair statement, since the increased attention to the work might actually increase sales! I'm not saying it's the definite truth, but it's - at the last- as true as what you said. Well, just don't claim that every download is lost money.. Please?

@Quik, that comment was directed towards the school bomb remark. And was a statement, not an accusation on somebody else's reply.

Quote: "there is a geek section and there is where this discussion is to be held."

Someone mentioned in this thread that I had reported this entire incident to the BSA. It wouldn't have been a logical choice to start a new thread in a different forum to respond to a single reply in this one. I wasn't looking to start an off-topic discussion in the first place

EDIT: Though this discussion does seem to keep running on and on, so I'll leave it be.

...but it is. There have been many times media has been pirated even before release and it's caused company's to not release it. Your not taking into account the production cost, which not only includes money but hours upon hours of hard work and many times stress, sleep deprivation and a destroyed liver from all the coffee and energy drinks.

Not saying that's what Kraven is going though, but I do agree with what he's doing, and I believe in harsh punishments for pirating any media.

this is ur opinion, i respect it, but dont u think 500k$ is a bit much for downloading a couple of models? just wanna see ur opinion and how u see upon it.

yeah so do i, since if a whole forum is downloading stuff illegaly, then they should be stopped more or less.

while we are at piracing, why do companies spend resources to make a game "incrackable", when they SHOULD know it will be cracked withing a week/24 hours? while not just make a simple piracy protection and focus more on the game, because, to put i simple, piracy cant and will not ever be stopped, i believe we all know this.

sorry, drifting away from the "topic" (about models being pirated).

edit: about the thing when companies have had their stuff ripped before release, this is usually the companies fault for leaking stuff.

The piracy is robbery, not more, not less, but in another point of view, the robbery is inevitable...

In example, if I'm poor, I think I will steal some food.

For the GCS sellers (I'm not a seller) who are talking here,
I understand that the robbery/piracy can hurts, it's many hours of work, and at the end, you are thank like this:
Your models are already on 9999 websites and 9999 torrents.

It's unfair for you.

One day, I've given some models (just converted from MDL to X),
and the next day, the models are shared on several "FPSC Warez" sites, I was really angry !

Please apologize my bad english, I'm French.

The longer a game remains uncracked the more money the game makes. I read it was something like £2-4 million a day or something like that.

Yiu cant have a law for one and a law for another. Its clearly black and white in this case, you pirate something of value you'v stolen it end of. Same as stealing from a shop, or a supermarket ect and because its so much easier to do it through the wens as anno, the punishment is given all the same. Acting like Anno means you take all the crimes under that title, they cant judge the serverity of it and link it to any past robberies so they do it as all the same. Its actually a very, very clever system.

From the start you shouldn't have been doing it, you got caught you faec the consquences.

An to clear any misconception in my other post, i Dl'd a book called bridgemans book of life for a reference, since the schools had been leant out. I should say the politically correct thing, i deleted it after i knew it was... -lame excuss- Ironically i did after it turned to be useless... lol

Welcome to mis-match thoughts without regulation. I should sleep noaw.

Edit anyone think the second model looks like darth vader?

now u are being stupid, robbery usually ends up with someone with a gun pointed at their head, which piracy obviously doesnt.

Quote: "The longer a game remains uncracked the more money the game makes. I read it was something like £2-4 million a day or something like that. "

AC2 who, they said, would be uncrackable, got cracked within a day, why? because they believe it to be a fun challenge, crackers do not crack games to save money, they buy the game, and crack it for the fun.

I don't think piracy is such a big thing, It is a crime but unlike stealing from a shop no one has lost anything. For example, I steal a copy of COD MW2 from a shop, They have lost that copy of the game and, There for, The money aswell. If i download it no one has lost a copy of the game, And no one has lost anymoney because I wouldn't have bought it. It isn't anywhere near as bad as stealing or almost any other crime

Wrong. It is stealing, plain and simple. Any way you try to rationalize it, it is wrong. I'm assuming your copy of Max is pirated as well.

i think everyone should stop posting piracy related topics on this thread, simply stay on topic, i think a mod should delete all related posts, if you all want to express your opinion post a topic in the 'geek chat' section

no, it is copying, last time i checked copying an object isnt stealing eh? therefore copying a virtual file isnt stealing.

and assuming someone pirated a software only because they believe otherwise than u is just plain stupid!

Just to clarify for you Kravenwolf, the links to EAI and Kravenwolf media were posted by immortal himself on that site, whether he posted the downloads or not I have no idea but you can be sure he either ripped the media he has on his drive or he made it available after purchase, it was his way of being accepted by them, so he could access the media he ripped off. I have absolutely no sympathy for him.
He then proceeded to download and alter (slightly) the cs:s character which he then tried to sell to users on the FPSC forum if that not stealing in the worst possible way, I dont know what is.

Quote: ""i think everyone should stop posting piracy related topics on this thread, simply stay on topic, i think a mod should delete all related posts, if you all want to express your opinion post a topic in the 'geek chat' section""

Not really, for a while at least it warns both those who pirate and those who buy media from other users to be wary of what they are doing, this was a typical case of someone whose work was not very good suddenly acquiring fantastic skills in modeling and texturing within a couple of months.
I feel that the whole discussion about piracy in this thread is totally appropriate as this is where the culprit posted in first place, in fact first post complimented him on 'his' military pack(I also feel that his thread in which he tried to sell the aforementioned media should have been left open for a while so folks could let off steam about this) some folks actually paid him for that media and must feel badly ripped off as it is now unusable, what if they had used it and found themselves hounded by authors who dont give a damn that you trusted the seller.
Selling media on these forums is built on trust and the likes of immortal just destroyed that.

Quote: "no, it is copying, last time i checked copying an object isnt stealing eh? therefore copying a virtual file isnt stealing."

So the intention is to copy the file onto your hard drive and just have it sit there?
LOL if only it were that simple eh!

Quik: YES, it is stealing. People put a LOT of hard work into models and programs and they have every right to sell\them have them exclusively for a game\blablabla. When you take something you have not paid for, and it was not a PAID FOR gift, can you call that ANYTHING other than stealing?

Mike: No, I do not know what you mean.

Wouldn't it be considered theft of intellectual property?
