Since my other thread got closed, and Hockeykid is working on the official FPSC engine, I think he should get a "Valued Members" badge.

Well he can work on the official FPSC,but until we see any result, there is no way to judge. Best to wait until 1.17 release.

O.K., if he doesn't already, he should get one. I would be confused if he didn't!!

let me reiterate what the mods reiterated:
Quote: "Let me reiterate - it is a concensus of opinion amongst all Moderators across the boards who decide who gets an award and who does not - and when they will be awarded. If ever again - or not as decided."

If a thread gets locked, you don't post another thread about the same thing! There's a reason the other threads were locked! It's great that you have a crush on hockeykid but cmon.

Not to offend anyone or somehow step on people's toes, but why should you get an award for making a mod or working on FPS engines or anything of the sort. Many people release content all the time and are not given any kind of award.

Awards should be given based on the community liking the person, someone who respects others, obeys the rules, and generally has contributed more than just content in the forums. Making a mod doesn't constitute as a good enough reason if you ask me.

That's just my opinion though.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Yup, we like to award badges to members who bring something extra, might be some extra insight, a willingness to offer advice and help, or just a great attitude to other people and their projects.

It doesn't actually mean very much apart from being a big thumbs up from us, for being awesome.

You could have said that shortly: Badge for Tanya

Van B gave me that award once for doing his ironing. I saw it as a ploy to get me to carry on doing his domestic chores so I threw it back in his face, and got a restraining order against him. Now he lurks outside my bedroom window at night, clutching the valued members badge in one hand and weeks worth of un-ironed shirts in the other.

Trust me, it's more trouble than it's worth.

Insert piccy sig here. Eh? Why didn't that work?!?! Must ring help-a-noob. What was the number again? .... where am I?

Tanya who?

That's the point, if someone only posts in one particular section, then it's difficult to justify badges, especially with FPSC as there are other awards on the FPSC forums. I think it's best that valued member badges are for the whole forum, so we mostly consider people who post all over the place.

Of course I know who Tanya is, but if you don't frequent the FPSC forum, you might not - we had this whole discussion in the mods lounge. Anyhoo, we all like to agree on nominations and we are strict and slow, so the badges mean all the more. If Tanya ventured out more, maybe spread that good attitude around a little, then we'd all see that and be more likely to agree on a nomination.

Anyhoo, I have to get back to my ironing, it won't do itself (looks at Fallout, dissapointed - wondering what else he might do for a badge .

O.K., then explain to me why people wouldn't like him for working on the migration, which has been awaited for around 5 years? He hasn't just worked on fenix mod. He has been helping Lee on the migration for the past 3 months.

You have tried to get a valued member thing done for this "Hockeykid" person in the FPSC boards, and it was rejected by the mods that time round. The fact that you made a second request in a mostly non FPSC board where nobody has a clue who Hockeykid is is admirable, but it isn't going to go down with much success.

This is not to say that Hockeykid isn't deserving of an award though, because for all I know, he is a fantastic contributor, it is just that nobody here knows or is impacted on by the contributions and so you won't find much support

It would have been just as, perhaps more effective if you just emailed an FPSC mod and asked them to reconsider.

What purpose would emailing a mod serve? By making a thread users can discuss and be more influential than an email.

If people think he is a valued member, then he is a valued member. What's so special about this "valued member" thing anyway? Do people really need to have a sticky attached to themselves to be considered special. I bet most people on the FPSC board already know Hockeykid is so it's not really beneficial.. Or?

In this thread most of the discussion has been against the idea of awarding this user with an official valued member thing. One well written persuasive email may at the least stick in the minds of one of the mods when they consider valuable members, whereas this thread is mostly going to serve against Hockeykid getting promoted because everyone is asking what the point is. Not ideal perhaps, but if you are focussed on your goal of getting Hockeykid the valued member badge perhaps a worthwile option, in my opinion

If this discussion turns around and a few FPSC users are open to the idea, then yeah, I'll admit an email is not worth it because you have strength in numbers, but in Geek Culture that will be quite hard to go by.

I'm surprised Benjamin is not a valued member, he's so helpful and the moderators adore him so much.

What a justified response...

I have no idea who hockeykid is, hell, i barely know who anyone else is around here...

I've always wondered why people need to justify their time on the internet with badges of honour. You should give one to me, I won't appreciate it at all...

Why Asteric? He just pops by every now and then, shows off his 1337 skillz, gives other people a bit of helpful crit then bogs off again.

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

If your thread is locked, don't remake it. Perhaps there is a reason it was locked?
