Went through an installer then it seems to install. When it runs it comes up with an error. Missing some jet dll, which I seem to remember is an old database thing with Visual Studio stuff? Probably a dot net thing, but as I am not really in need of terrains at present, I can't be messing about installing it.
Looks good stuff though and will very likely try it out when I am in need of a nice terrain. I have seen a few terrain editors for DB, but they all lack an option to save a height map and corresponding detail map. The best one I have used recently is one VanB wrote awhile back. Apart from the one included with Unity, but that is useless as far as I know for anything but the Unity app.

Sorry for not responding earlier. I did some research on terrains. I went 5 weeks long distance walking in Britain. You know that real terrains are far more beautiful than anything we can create on the computer.

Still I'm working on a new version and hope to resolve the installation problems soon.

I also hope the new version of blitz will increase the speed but can't test it because it doesn't work on my computer

DVader if you get a jet error you are trying to install a older version. I used a mdb database for data and preferences but because of installation problems I replaced it with text files. The latest version can be found here http://www.edam1740.nl/landgen/download.html

Unzip and if the .net framework is installed on you're computer it should run without installing.

@smass,

Did you fix that section of code I mentioned? The one with the date in it? That might be what's causing MW's problem.

smaas, this is AMAZING! And it works!

Although do you think you can put up a small tutorial for us showing us EXACTLY how you made the demo terrain for folk who are still learning how to use Landscape Gen?

Thanks alot, smaas!

And WONDERFUL contribution to the community!

Now the installation works I'll see what I can do. Still waiting for a stable version for Blitz. It still crashes on my computer. Maybe R2 will solve this problem.

There is a windows crash bug that has been solved in R2. I have also solved the seams which come up on sector edges.

I'll release it tonight!

As a special fix for all of you low-end graphics card users who were having problems like me, please download the attachment! You may now use SMAAS' plugin on extremely low-end graphics cards!

Enjoy!

And special thanks to Kaedroho for taking the time to help me debug his plugin! i simply fixed a typo and deleted a line that wasn't needed in this version!

Have fun!

Also, SMAAS, I would be honored if you would add this rar file to your site so that low end users as well as high end users can download and use this wonderful contribution!

Thanks!

Guys! I have a treat for u! After some tweaking, I've gotten this thing running at near perfect speed using timer based movement! It works even on the worst of graphics cards! I have included the code along w/ the dll I forgot to give u cuz I was tired yesterday! Credit to the TBM dll goes to ShawnRWS!

How can I decrypt the dat file so i can change the size of the trees in my game? then re-encrypt it?

EDIT: or at LEAST a way to tell the game which trees i want to scale, position, and model. because i think a "land generator" is impractical if you want to generate a new landscape, you have to have different trees in different places of YOUR choice. not of the game's choice.

We also need to be able to add collision and shadows to trees. Because without collision and shadows, trees are nothing.

thanks!

Took a while but there is a new version. It can be downloaded from the website http://www.edam1740.nl/landgen/download.html.

I added a small GDK version with terrain only and no vegetation. I won't write a complete version until there is a Matrix1Utility for GDK.

I also put Mugen Wizardry version on the site. Thanks.

I wrote manual which answers most of you're questions. Then help can also be found on my website.

http://www.edam1740.nl/landgen/help/index.html

I wrote an editor in DBPro which enables you to change the landscape runtime. Scale, rotate and move every object, paint the terrain, add objects end change the shader parameters.

In the help are two examples how to change or write you're own vegetation.

The source is included. Here you can find how data.dat is read and written. File formats are also described in the help.

Don't use the new release of Blitz, it doesn't works yet with shaders.

I replaced the water by a second blitz terrain improving the performance. When I have the commercial version of blitzterrain I can test if an exclusion map increases the speed even more. Using a terrain for water opens new possibilities like lakes and even rivers and waterfalls.

I did some performance tests and found that most speed is lost by the shader. I posted the shader on evolved website may somebody there can improve it.

Daniel wright 2311; landgen only saves a few textures, you don't need x files as the terrain is build by blitzterrain.

All that is generated is

WM0_0000.png
WM1_0000.png
WM2_0000.png
WM3_0000.png

defining the texture

HM0000.bmp

The heightmap

EnvMap0000.png

the environment map

data.dat

data on objects en shader parameters

This is a very timely release. Lee has twittered that a DBPro upgrade 7.6 will be released shortly to accommodate BlitzTerrain. The full version will be sold on the TGC site. I'm not sure what changes will be made in DBPro in the upgrade. I was assuming that 7.5 was adequate.

I downloaded your files, but some of the archives seem corrupt.
(the Blitz archive I can not open with 7zip and the winrar gives error messages). I get error messages on the landgen archive too.
I managed to extract the archive but can not run the Blitz example nor the LGeditor.

It is a pitty because your work looks very interesting.

Sorry about that I've added zip, a new rar and 7z. If you have still problems let me know Peter.

Landgen now generates a texture as well. If you don't want to use the shader you can use this texture to texture the terrain. Using a texture improves performance.

In the main file of Blitz.dbpro you can choose how the terrain will be textured by setting the variable terrainMode.

- terrainMode = cTexture

the texture is loaded, no shader is used

terrainMode = cShader

The shader is used to texture the terrain

terrainMode = cShaderLoad

The shader is used but the files are loaded not by the shader but in DBPro. You need this if you want to change the terrain in you're application.

I've been playing with this for a while now, and have a couple of suggestions and comments.

- The command in your DBP source "IMAGE DOT" is not recognized, and there's no mention which plugin that's from.
- A LOAD command would be very helpful. Some of the commands don't always do what you think they might, and there's no current way to go back.
- The ability to choose the amount of the effect the brush has would be very helpful. Right now a very fast single click takes the terrain under the cursor all the way up or all the way down.
- A smoothing option that reduces stair stepping on large terrains would be nice, although I can do that in Paint Shop Pro, it would be nice to have it all in the same app.

I'm still learning some of the techniques you've used, but so far it's working very well.

Thanks.

I have just solved the bug in BlitzTerrain which prevents shaders from working properly. The problem was that I forgot to call Commit Changes which is the DirectX function to apply matrices, vectors, etc to an effect. I'll upload the latest dll shortly.

Image Dot is from the older version of image kit. In the latest version it's changed to IK Dot[href]http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=177340&b=5[/href.

A load is a good idea and I think about the brush.

There are two ways to smooth the terrain, Edit/Tools/Smooth or use thermal erosion in generate/tools.

If looked into curving road textures but haven't found a way. I'm working on directional water maybe it can be used later for roads.

some ware in my travels though the forum
I did find code for making a race track

it had hill's and a like

the only thing was that it was limited to end to end connection

but I know with some work it could be used making roads

it was a nice peace of work but very complicated bit of coding

I'll try and see if I can find the link in what I have
stored

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=102823&b=1

using the search for the forum

I put in road for the first one
and curved roads for the second one

I will continue to look for race track one unless some
one else finds it before I do

Hi Resourceful, that´s my complicated bit of code you have found.I have updated it a lot since then though so if you or any one else would like to make use of it let me know and i`ll post up what i have.I stopped updating the WIP post for this due to a lack of interest that was showed in it,but i have kept tinkering with it.The only problem i had was a decent vehicle physics system to make use of it.

hi paul5147

I would like to see the updated version please

dbp and dark physic's and other physics could be used
now to better utilize that you have created

the hope it could be used to build roads though a city and from city to city's

2 or more lanes of traffic with turn offs

this would greatly save on memory and sorage of files
needed for making a level's

it would mean the level being played would only need to
load what is needed at the time and unload what is not
give or take repeating objects

if some had to load in a 3d built level that takes time to load
and more computing power to work with

and with computer using multy cpu's in 1 chip and
in the works a 1000 core cpu to come out some time in the future
grame's bee much better ;o)
