Hello everyone.
I am making this thread to show you all the models and media i am currently working on. i have taken a break from doing models for the fpsc community because i want to make a game all my own. Although i am no good at most of the things required to complete a game i am more than willing to give it a shot. Im not quite ready to post models for critiquing yet but i thought i would get some first impressions on the few models i have that are presentable.

I know that the game i make will not be anywhere near the cutting edge of game play of realism so i'm going to have fun with it. most games (and there players) take themselves too seriously thus making it a matter of all or nothing. therefore i am taking a different approach with these assets. I am making my games look more artistic than real. not blinding color attack though.

besides, things look nicer when there not painted in every shade of dirt.

Thanks for reading. keep an eye on this thread. i will be posting models for you guys too!

Perhaps i should better explain myself. I do not mean that these assets would be similar to whats found in a cartoon on a TV show and i don't mean that they will look real either. what i mean is they will have a clean look. kind of stylized if that makes sense. they will be things that are not covered in noise. things that look good without trying to be real or silly. kind of in the middle.

anyway i am going to redo the table in the first screen and make other pieces to go with it. in the mean time heres a screen of some crates, barrels and the texture for the medium apartment building to try and better describe what kind of style im going for.

in the mean time please let me know what you all think about these models. am i on a track you'd be interested in or am i wasting my time?

thanks for reading and i may post a few models in a few hours.

One thing, i dont think that on a skyscraper that clean, half of the windows would be broken.

Not doing it correctly. Normally if you want someone to give feedback on a model, post one model at a time. If you just want to show it off and get praised for it then that will take more then a day for someone to post unless it's really high quality. Don't get me wrong your texture work looks good so there isn't much to suggest or needs correcting.

the fragile stickers on the crate are backwards/flipped. the side facing us now would normally be the sticky side.

The crates look amazing. The barrels look a bit plain, as in the only detail I see are the main colors and that bit of grungy rust. Try making a metal texture and overlaying it on the barrel texture and see if that works. The building... is a little bit low detail, as in the modeling. It's great for a low poly game, or maybe a scenery object, but if it were a real building, I'd but more detail in modeling for that model. Maybe model out the windows, or perhaps a fine normal map

Hello everyone

not too much going on this weekend. i have been spending time out in the bush. anyway i have fixed the backwards labels on the crates, and redid the texture for the barrels. they now have brushed metal lines and paint scratches.

The cover of the book on the right looks weird, it's like a japanese book (read from right to left instead of left to right).

my suggestion would be to rotate the cover so it looks upside down from this perspective.

http://mayang.com/textures/Wood/images/Flat%20Wood%20Textures/wood_1163209.JPGhttp://mayang.com/textures/Wood/images/Flat%20Wood%20Textures/wood_1163209.JPG

try doing a wood texture more lit like that were the lighter parts have a yellow/brown hue to them and the dark parts have a brown hue to them. other then that the wood texture doesn't look that bad. you may want to scale it down so that there is more variation

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.winnelliesecondhand.com.au/desks/images/WoodOfficeDesk.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.winnelliesecondhand.com.au/desks.html&usg=__EO4nU7e6ycPArwT1--hqJzKJVAk=&h=375&w=500&sz=30&hl=en&start=59&sig2=Pc1hMQlG46X3pYI7mBZK8Q&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=2A-h7XBcxyfPmM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwood%2Bdesk%26start%3D40%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26ndsp%3D20%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=s_DxS7T2M4LGrAeA6fjfDQ

this site may also give some incite on how to do a wood desk(not a tutorial or anything just has some nice wood desks) you should try scaling down the grain as it looks just way to large.

ultimate h im not exactly sure what your seeing wrong with the book on the right. it looks fine to me.

edit sorry the links aren't working. don't know whats up with them just copy and paste them into you address bar.

the binding looks to be on the right side so that it opens left to right, most books open right to left... it's like it's mirrored rather than rotated around from the book on the left of the desk, or mabye they were uv mapped seperately and he gave the cover image to both top faces, though normally the right book would be showing us the back cover

The wood texture actually looks pretty good only thing I'd suggest is to remember that a desk is made up of a bunch of different pieces of wood and the grain won't flow seamlessly in the same direction across all of its parts. Some rotations in the direction of the graining from piece to piece would help break it up a bit and not seem so wrapped on, you know?

why did u bump the thread after 13 hours?

anyhow, the texture looks like a solid base texture (the wood) it just needs a bit more fuss and noise =P and more colour variation

I bumped the thread because i had not received a comment other than my own since the 15th May 2010. over two days.

The book was backwards, i cont believe i missed that. i have fixed it now.
and the wood texture is looking a little better. heres a shot. Should i add more noise or add contrast? not sure.

it is looking much better i think the top could use some more detail or you could provide a better view of it because at this angle it looks almost like a flat color

These assets may be going into a game. at least thats my goal.

46000 polygons of couch anyone?
Ive done a high poly and low poly couch. The high poly couch didn't turn out as well as i thought it would though.

I'd make the side pillows thicker, they're not very plump or comfy looking

looking much better.

The ottoman has an odd crease in the geometry down near the base. Is this a mesh error or intentional as in sagging cloth once the texture is applied? It looks a bit out of place.

i'm back from a lot of RL work. got kinda bored with the models i was working on so i've begun some new ones. heres a screen! i do indeed notice the excessive polys so don't worry about them.

Pretty Nice. Are you planning on making the glass see through or the one way type, because I think that you'll find it a bit hard to make the inside of the care when the glass is isn't really modeled in, but it look pretty good, hope to see it finished

I like the low poly way more than the high poly too. They're more useful.
Id just like to show you guys these models I've done last week ill be rigging and animating these models too. my only question is if these meshes will be easy to rig and animate. where should i edit the model? They are to look similar to the Xbox avatars. skinny bodies big heads and hands.

The female character is also not quite as finished as the male one.

WHAT THE HELL?! IS THAT A HEAD?! haha it's too huge, but it looks VERY nice! (a bit higher poly compared to the rest of the body, but i suppose it's normal as the head need alot more detail)

Hello everybody.
Now that i have graduated high school and will be moving into the real world i may need to give up on my game design hobby. Ive always wanted to make some kind of game but could never get past making everything i needed for the game look decent. mainly because i've always been changing styles. and partially because i've never put in the time to learn how to make a full game. I've been casually been doing some work whale i listen to music and think about my future. I may just release all my unfinished work in one big zip. That is, if my internet can stay on long enough to.

Anyways, heres a roadblock im making. its based of the HL2 roadblocks. ive only applied a basic texture to it so don't rip on it too much. What do you think about adding blood stains and hand prints on the front?

About the figure models: Take a look at these two pics:
http://poopinmymouth.com/process/tips/shoulder_deform.jpg
http://poopinmymouth.com/process/tips/limb_deformations.gif

They are super handy, and I keep a copy of them on my pc.
Everything is looking pretty good, though! I especially like the textured road block. Good job!

Really Awesome Work here, JZ, i could see a potential "Ware House Enviroment" pack from the first pack of images of the last row, the second, the building, is kinda stylish and i think it would look great on an Expansion pack to your Buildings Pack

The third, tough i think its the industrial model pack, i will shut now, i dont know about it,texture work seems really nice
i would recommend on the pallete, to put like some sort of sheet up too, like covering half of it
looking forward to it, JZZ8,

Have a nice day,
