Hey everyone,

This next school year I'm hoping to start a design firm in my area with some fellow students in my design class as a project/opportunity for money. Needless to say, I thought, "what's a business without a business card?"

So I got to work...

But then I thought "Let's get a little more creative" and, being inspired by a number of various cards, I decided to literally burn the top left corner of every card after printing to produce a more physical influence of my firm's name, "Pixel Fire" Designs. Here's a simulation of what the card would look like in a real world situation.

Comments? Crit?

Thanks!

AaronG

Catchy name . Your information could probably be bigger, printed at business card size I imagine it will be very hard to read.

Yeah, maybe a little bit bigger text, but besides that i think it's pretty good.

I like the idea of burning the corner, it's a great touch. Did you think about making it look like the flame burned it? so it's right above the flame graphic... it might not work, but it's an idea.

You know Peter, a friend of mine said the same thing earlier. I was thinking that...but then it'd make the card appear "unbalanced" or "not symmetrical". I think it'll make too much media appear on one side, leaving the other blank. I have an idea though...I'll mock it up in photoshop and upload it.

Maybe include a real match glued to the card next to the burn? That'd be kind of cool.

hmm... but then you would have two kinds of fire.. it's like wearing two not quite similar shades of blue o_O

i think gluing a match would be bad, since people couldn't put it in their pockets or files or whatever they wanted, since it would be uneven/not flat.

That's an interesting design. Especially the burnt edge.

Though why not put the burnt edge above the fire?

I like this a lot. As mentioned above, you might want to increase the text size for your details, but it's hard to tell without actually seeing the card itself so you're probably in a better position to judge.

As for the burning - I think it's a great idea, it really makes the card feel unique. I agree that it needs to be on the right hand side for symmetry, but the match might be a step too far. The burning is already unusual enough.

So, in all - great job!

Great idea. Try not to set your house on fire.

The only bad thing about it is the text part of the logo (PF). Without first seeing the text next to it ('Pixel Fire') the P looks like an ambiguous 'e'/'E' rather than a P because of the way it joins with the top of the F

That Looks pretty good, nice touch with the burnt edge. Have you tried burning off the top-right corner? See how that looks.

Yeah, i think the corner would be better than the top right edge (which you have in that second picture).

Ah, I see what you are all saying. That's a very good idea, I think I may try that.

I like it My only critique is that pixels are square, but whatever.

How about instead of a business card you make a match book with your information on.
I found this site with some cool ideas linky

Awesome business card! I'd call you, instead of a plain, grey one, haha.

Thumbs up high for you!

Looks good to me, just don't like the beveled edges in seen in the first image.

There is an online company I found years ago that prints business cards.... on metal. Thin metal business cards are cool I think!

The fire design/shape you have looks fantastic, but it's a little too blurry and kinda choppy near the bottom. The edges should be cleaned up I think. Also the shine on the top of the ring where the fire is coming out seems lopsided. A lot of shine on one side but not the other.

Now this is nitpicking but I want to make sure you are aware, considering what your business is all about. It's quite obvious you 'contract'ed your selection from the black ring into the glowy center. On the left inside of the black ring the side looks flat. Not curved enough. Try redoing that but instead of contracting the selection try just subtracting another, smaller circle from the middle. It will look nicer

Overall wicked design. I love the burnt corner idea for sure. I think a matchbook would complement nicely as well.

Wow thanks for all the feedback!

Agent Dink - wow, awesome critique. I didn't realize those errors.

Also, the fire is blurred near the bottom because I blurred it, for I was too lazy to think of another way to blend it, as a feathered mask looked horrible. I have a few ideas though

Here's a suggestion:

Make a bunch of cards, light a match, and burn them all into a pile of ashes. Put the ashes into small containers and hand those out instead.

Kidding, of course.

I like it alot! You've got skillz. When are you going to start making the real things?
