Try my hand at some skyboxs today. First time so didn't spend too much time on the scene. Mostly spent several hours figuring out how to render the images from Truespace. In the end they turned out pretty good in my opinion.

It's not a good practice to draw props onto the skybox, you'll severely limit yourself in what you can draw onto your scene.

I think that it would be ok if the scene was carefully planned out beforehand especially if someone were concerned on were thier polys went. Of course you could always keep some of the background on seperate layers to easily manipulate things later if need be. For example using a layer for the sky box and then a seperate layer for the ship. this way it would also be possible to create a layered scrolling effect (not sure that would be the right way to explain it.)
