-Dusk- The Rebirth

by Astek

During the cold war, a genetically modified
chemical warfare agent was genetically forged and
proved to be lethal. The Soviet Union immediately
closed down all operations from the department that
created it and shot every individual working under
the company. This virus killed many Soviets. Its
codename: Demon Sun. Soviets spent many months trying
to clean up the toxin and it even brought to the story
of Demon Sun. Several years later, a mutated version of
the mass agent has spread through the world.
The new agent goes under the name of -Dusk-. This disease
my also hold several dark secrets. You, under a Special
Operations team, find yourself awake, inside the complex...
where it all started.

(This game was a "knock-at" addition to Demon Sun)

Additional Comments:
This was the 3rd Dusk build of that games first level.
Since I lost Dusk the 3rd time, I've sinced moved to
trying other engines. Dusk will not ever die but it
will certainly remain my brainchild.

To play this game, you need your screen brightness at
100 and possibly the brightest contrast avalaible.
This was not intentional to put you in massive dark
but this was also so you can't cheat and raise the
brightness to dull the game's effect.
This also supports ENB Bloom. Press SHIFT+F12 to use.
*Bloom will make it impossible to see though.
Thank you guys for reading and downloading.

Thanks. This is also exactly why I don't use the TGC
boards to post my stuff. I have the urge to go back
and look every 30 minutes.

Its playable if you raise your screen brightness and don't
activate bloom. BTW, I know the menu is hard to read but its
not like I can go back and refix it. It's gone forever.

I don't think it was too dark at all. It was pretty fun. The enemies were nice, I've never seen them before in any games. I like how you made the door animation slower, it was a niec touch. Using the computer to unlock doors was a nice touch. You retextured all kinds of stuff to look dirtyer, and everything looked nice! I especially liked the toilet scene. Except that when you open the usable door, you can walk trought the walls, but it wasn't so bad in here. The scenes were nice overall. The loading screen thou was pretty hard to read and I'm not sure if it mached with the rest of the game, but other than that, the menu and that stuff were pretty cool. There was one door that was totally black, so I didn't see it, but it wasn't that hard to find. And the cell door opens so that it covers the hallway. If it opened in hte other direction it would have been nicer. I was in that cell for a long time trying to get out, and becouse in that place, there was quite dark, I couldn't see the door opening animation, so I thought the door was just another wall. But other than that I liked the level design! It was nice and fun to play! 5 thumbs up!

Thanks. It was very early and only a preview level back then.
I lost the project so there was no need to horde that to
myself. I also know of the several bugs in the game but
the version where I fixed all the issues was lost.

The title menu was also fixed back then. It doesn't
really matter that you read it though. The story is told
in the thread anyway.

Well to be honest, i think it's good to redo the loading screens, but that's my opinion.

I would love to redo the loading screens but I'm not messing
with this. I've since moved on to UDK so I don't really use FPSC
any more. This will probably be the way it stands.

Even on brightness & contrast 100% plus playing in a darkened room it was nothing more than a constant stumble through the darkness. The game effect wasn't dulled taht way, yes - but the whole game was made tedious, annoying and in the end worthless.

No review from me this time.

Personally I find it really weird, that a game developer would risk making his game unplayable for everybody just for the sake of preventing a small minority *cheating*

CoZ had Demon Sun perfect - dark, yet still do-able. Make your lights have a larger range with darker colours. That always does the trick. Although I do like how the story 'merges' with Demon Sun's

Wierd. 20 plus people were able to play it fine before you.
I do admit a few "blind" spots but I don't deem this complete
garbage.

Your opinion though.

Thank you FPS Creator Games. I will sadly not release a
fixed or updated version of this most likely. The lighting was
flawed. True. I was also on a machine not made even for casual gaming
when I made the .exe above.

I intend to look into the future and see where it will take me.
If you want though, pick up my latest title. Dojo.

You can find pictures like that on the internet if you looked
right. Doesn't much matter to me however. That part got cut out
anyway.

Hey, i didnt mean it like that. The Penumbra thing was just a joke. But this painting is so familiar. I was just asking, I dont really care if its from it...

Edit:

Well I was curious and cheched it and it was in a Unbirth.

I quess the maker of Unbirth found the same image from a internet. Well the Unbirth was never finished anyway. Shame, It could have been a great game. But you can still download the test version(If you want to see different levels you have to do some copying and pasting with the level files)

Jonez, I downloaded the game and I can never play it without it
crashing. This happened on an XP machine and Windows 7. Any secrets
to how you got this game to work right?

Thanks

Well, as far as I know... You will be able to go trough one door and it will crash when you try to enter to another door.
But if you want to try the different levels, go to the map's folder and pick anything you like, for example, House3(folder in map folder) and copy "childroom1" both files and paste to the Basement1 folder in a map folder. Then make a back ups of the both "Start" map files, and rename the "childroom1" files as "start".
You can do this with all the levels, but you still cant go trough but only one door at the time.
Shame the game wont work better than that. But the spirit still lives in a Penumbra series...

It somehow worked for me today. I played it up through the first level.

It's a pretty interesting concept.
