Hey all. I know I look like I'm new here, but I use to hang out here alot under the name: CrayZemon (The guy with the lavalamp avatar). I left because my PC died on me (motherboard problem). I now have it replaced with a 2.4 gigahertz Gateway PC that has a Celeron Processor.

My Question is: How is a Celeron Processor going to handle high-polygon demands that my DB programs produce (especially when you compare a Pentium IV)? I'm not trying to write the next Jax and Daxter, but I'm just curious.
Good to see you all again.

i use a 933 celeron with a geforce 1 and i have acceptable frame speeds.

I do not however have access to higher features like shaders at the momo due to the video cards limitation

celerons are just pentiums that didnt quite make the cut. So what you have is really just a bad pentium.

Main difference is that Celeron has smaller on-chip cache which makes it less expensive than the same speed Pentium, but also less efficient, so not as fast under high load conditions.

If your processor is at 1 GHz speed or greater, then the video subsystem would be the limiting factor. A 2.4GHz Celeron would be almost fast enough for software rendering at 640x480.

put it this way.

Its better for your game to develop it on something slower.

You will develop smarter more efficient code with a slightly slower machine, instead of relying on pure grunt.

you can improve that machine with a newer video card to access the new shader features avialble in todays cards.

I like Indi's comment. I recently played a DB game that relied entirely on "grunt" for it's wow and it is just as ineffecient as it is newbie-ish...

what i've found to be more of an issue is the video card

My advice is free -
unfortunately you get what you pay for (-:
