Two nights ago my computer was fine, but yesterday morning when I turned it on, it would get a black screen. After some searching on google and trying everything I knew how, I decided to do a hard reset, because I don't want to waste money taking it to Best Buy (Geek squad sucks). Anyone else had the "Vista black screen of death with no mouse cursor before login screen"?

I know someone who had to reinstall Windows because of something similar to that, but hopefully you won't have to. The problem could be many things, what are the other steps you took?

Does it give you the "loading Windows" animation? Do you still see the motherboard information in the beginning of starting up? If you do, then a black screen at this point probably means a driver failed to load. You can see which driver by booting into safe mode and seeing what the last driver it loads is.
