I personnaly use Wings3D. Look around the forums, all the models I've showcased here are made in Wings3D, including my mechs.

Depends if you want to animate them. There are a few nice modellers out there. Try Wings3d, JTEdit, DeleD, Quil3d.

Use DeleD to get skilled in 3d editing! Visit http://www.gamefortress.com/delgine for more info.

Which version of DoGA are you using? L3's ability to load custom parts (SUF files) makes it really flexible. I can also point you a ton of extra parts if you haven't found them yet.

Having been there, done that. I don't know of any program besides DoGA that could be considered a dedicated mecha maker.

True, Arrow. I like to use DoGA L3/Metasequoia for modelling and Milkshape for animation.

Redostrike, it can be done with L1, but it is a lot easier to do with one of the L3 betas. Side note, L2 and L3 are fully functional for game modelling and still images. You only need to register them if you want to make AVI movies.

For L1, you would have to edit the parts.ini file, create some catalogue images, and setup directories with sequentially numbered parts, but it is doable. I just checked my L1 (I keep it around for tech support purposes. And, it can see some of the custom libraries I have created.)

I strongly suggest trying out L2/L3 since you get much better texture support for your exports to .X format. I've got a rough translation of the L3 Parts Assembler help page for L3, if you're gun shy about that. http://zircher.iwarp.com/doga

Your call if you want to stick with L1 or try the others out.

I'll zip up what I have for L1 and see if that is practical for e-mail or if I need to put it up on the web.

Ok, here are some links for you.

This is the human parts library
http://doga.jp/~kama/NewParts/Human/Human.LZH

This is the robot parts library
http://doga.jp/~kama/NewParts/Robot/Robot.LZH

I've got about a dozen more, but they do not have installers like these two do and they're intended for the new parts library style.

If you have 2002/11/08 beta or later, you may be able to use these as well. [They're in the new parts library style.]

http://doga.jp/~kama/NewParts/Insect/Insect.lzh
http://doga.jp/~kama/NewParts/Animal/Animal.lzh

You can not open LZH files, you can find my 'ton o parts' here. But, they're in the new style format...
http://mybiztalk.net/3d/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8

It is possible to convert new style back into old school, but given the amount of grunt work it is far easier to update your version of DoGA. [If you're really insistent, drop me a line and I'll work up a checklist of task to convert the library. The only tools you need are Notepad and MS Paint to edit the PARTS.INI file and create the catalogue images.]

Zircher i appreciate that you would do all this for me. But i'm gonna download L3. I don't need the AVI functio i will use Milkshape for it. Arrow your right Milkshape is good but a bad modeller + milkshape = good Program, bad graphics LOL.
Zicher many thanks from me m8.

No problem. BTW, all those parts (SUF files) are usable with L1, L2, or L3.

Yeah, the nice thing about DoGA L3 is that it has easy support for adding custom models and textures. L3 also includes an object convertor so you can convert DXF files to SUF files. I also like to use Metasequoia when I need to tweak an existing DoGA part or create one from scratch. The icing on the cake is that DoGA also exports to .X which is directly readable by Dark Basic. So, I can design a model DoGA and if I stay away from the render special effects I can expect to see the same thing in DBP.

I even use DoGA as my blended texture maker. If your only exposure to DoGA is L1, I strongly suggest checking out L2 and L3.

What I also liked about Doga is the style of the piece thatère shipped with it,you can make anime-looking robots & ships easily.
