I'm teaching myself programming with DarkGDK, but I lose motivation when none of my friends are interested in learning or creating something together. I have a friend who knows some photoshop, another who has done some midi music, but they all seem to have the WoW bug and don't really care about doing anything else.

I do believe though that they are the bandwagon types and once they see something worthy, then they'll want to be a part of it. Until then, I want to keep myself motivated and interested and if I could find others to work with, that would be awesome. If any other beginner programmers want someone to work with, send me an IM or email. Even if you haven't programmed before and just need someone to get you started, don't hesitate to message me. I have no problem being asked to help you find a bug in your code (if I can) if we're both working on something.

If you're an artist and have work you don't mind giving away for others to work with, that would be cool too. Even if it's a rough draft, I still would rather use something created by someone I know rather than rip something off of the internet. I would love to meet a person who does sprites since that's what I'm working with right now.

I'm in the NYC area and can do reasonable traveling. If you're around and you think this is a good idea, I'm waiting to hear from you.

I have a problem with people soliciting meetings in person here, unless it's for a TGC sponsored event. It's not a good idea to give your address away on a forum where nobody knows one's real identity.
This could potentially open the door for abuse.

Let's keep this to an email/IM request only please.

Jeku, that thought did not occur to me. I was thinking more along the lines of meeting up at library or a coffee shop or maybe at my job which is computer related and things are out in the open. I understand the need for safety, and am happy you pointed that out.

I still think the best way to learn something, especially when learning to program is to actually learn with someone at the beginning and the internet can create a larger hurdle than a benefit in certain cases.

If there's anything I can do to satisfy and safety requirements, please let me know. I wish we didn't live in a world where the first thought to mind was safety related, but that is the case . I honestly am posting this for the reason of learning and maybe starting a group of computer related friendships where we can work on projects.
