This is just a body on which I'll put the giant's head I made earlier.

What do you think?

Looks good - but when you include polycount in the title you should probably tell us the actual polycount

Looks great

nice, is he suposed to be the hulk or juggernaut? if he is keep his head small, if not make it bigger. I bet you could make his 8-pack with texture

how the heck do you guys do stuff like that? do you do it from scratch, or do you work off a background image?

Very nice, but one thing...

Why is he missing so many polygons?

Is that why he is "low poly"
(just kidding)

I take it that is the smoothed out version of your low poly model?

How many poly's is the non-smoothed version?

Not bad, some proportions looks bit strange to me but I might be mistaken, he is missing lot of his surface

And he doesnt look so low poly to me, I wouls say that complete body can have 3000-4000 polys (triangles) at the end.

Make his back more curved (S shaped) too...

Rpgamer:Look at he jpeg's name before saying anything.

Blazer:It's just a body for the giant's head I made earlier.

Darwin:Yes I use BG images.

Connected:non-Smoothed

Arrasoesn't look low-poly?It's only 1000 triangles

LuckyDevil:bah!Real or not who cares? It's gotta be fleshy and fantasy-like

Thanks all,as the jpeg name says it,it's 1000 triangle and it's not smoothed thanks alot.

alot of the detail could quite easily be sacified to texture/normal maps pretty easily, to go along with arras this might be kinda "low" right now however the finished thing is gonna be extreme.

personally i'd reckon closer to the 4,000poly mark perhaps 5,000 if your going to keep up the same level of detail throughout.

Looks great but if you want my opinion (which i know you dont) the lower part of the torso is to long, if i where you (which im not)i would either compress the stumach or simply cut away to last two muscle squares. Could you do that for me? could you?
The back looks awsome.
Thats all i guess

3500 would be an excellent count. Anymore, I don't think polycounts of 2000 are really low. With todays standards, 2500-3000 is probebly a good count to aim for.

Anyways...Nice work actarus.

that peeves me off when people say "low-polygon" when what they actually mean is a model which isn't over say 20k polygons.

low-polygon to me means 1,000 or under
high-polygon to me means 10,000 or over

i'm a game modeler as are most people here, best to try and keep that in mind with the statements mate

Nice job! It looks awesome. But it would look a little better with clothes on
Not way too high poly, but it wouldn't do so well in older computers with crap video cards.

oki sorry i have to say this... but either he has the squits and he's trying to keep it in or he's taking the saying "could crack walnuts with his buttcheeks" a little to seriously

(you know someone had to say it )

Great work with muscle modeling I must say, they look preaty nice.

But proportions of that guy runned bit out of human shape ...he looks bit deformed to me. Perhaps you were concentrating too much on muscle schemes.

Normaly when you model (doesnt matter if its digital model or a normal one) you start with basic shape and then add detail. My impression is that on this model you did it oposite ...just my impression

As I sad before, his backbone is strange, should have more S shape.
Also his ass is way too small and he should be may be wider in this part of body too. (there are muscles on that part too )

I would not call this model low poly since low poly for me means something around 1000polys but thats not changing fact that your model is good ...keep it up

Definately one of the best models you've posted thus far Act - very nice.

I have to agree that 1000 polys is about the limit for me, well if you want to have more than 5 characters on a 1ghz machine that is. Perhaps you should look into making a low poly version too for LOD - that's if it's for a game. Good luck texturing that dude though, I'm changing the way I model to make things easier on the texturing for me - mapping that guy would give me nightmares!.

Raven:ROTFLMAO,guess he could...

Arras:I'll have a look at what you said.

Bolt:Yeah, actually since it's a giant,he may probably only wear so rags around the genitals and some bones necklace or something...And of course,a BIG rock to throw.

Van:thanks for the comemnts.

Thanks for the comments,I hadn't much worked on the lower body when I made this shot, today,I'm concentrating on the legs and keeping it low...Well under 3500.

On the whole 'Optimal Polycount' thing I beg to differ...I think a model does NOT have an polycount limit,it's more a question about 'HOw to calibrate it for the said engine',but that's a personal view.

Oh and Arras, you right I did begin to model it detailed at first, when I model for lowpolygon characters,I like to do it all at once.

Its OK, but like that there is always danger that you will not keep general form right.

Thats why I like to use reference pictures. You are not big fan of em are you?
