I have a card with 2 DVI ports in it and I have 2 connected monitors. One is connected through DVI and the other VGA (using a DVI to VGA adapter). What I want to do is split one DVI side and connect the other VGA to DVI instead, and the other would be my DVI monitor. The 2 sides of the splitter would be the new DVI monitor (originally the VGA) and the other port would be a VGA connected to my monitor.

HERE ARE SOME SUPPER NIFTY DIAGRAMS!

The setup I need:

My current setup

Right now I just swap out the VGA cables when I want to use my TV as a monitor, but its extremely annoying because I have about a billion wires behind my PC + a capture card.

Other questions

1. Do the letters in this product make a difference? Such as:

Quote: "DVI-D"

and
Quote: "DVI-I"

2. Would that be a good splitter for the situation?

3. If I add a splitter can I just swap out monitors in the nVidia control panel?

You can use a splitter box that will show screen 1,2. However the only place I know that does them is startech.

However to change over your manually use the switch to turn the signal to the right screen. Some have a button or an older school knob.

I like the older school ones as they seem to last longer. However both box styles look ugly so it depends on which you like. They are used mainly in server designs so looks don't really come in to the design stage.

They are expensive and depending on your computer it maybe cheaper and easier to buy a second graphics card and sli them.

I'll add something later on.
