A massive 3D Compo summed up in a single word... FOOD!

Make a 3D model of any item, piece, slice or portion of Food!

This Compo will run through to December 27th 2010

Reiteration of the rules..

1) For 3D Best Model, a model is *required* for judging. (attach it to your final entry post.)
2) For 3D Best Texture, a texture map (UV or Seamless) is *required* for judging. (attach it to your final entry post.)
3) For 3D Champion both a model and texture are *required* for judging. (attach them to your final entry post.)

To Impress the judges..

4) Beauty shots/renders help allot and we give brownie points for this.
5) WiP mesh views and posts of your work-in-progress also get brownie points. We like to see how the models go from concept to finished.
6) Rigging and animating get huge brownie points. (this does not apply if the contest is for static objects.)
7) Game ready Low poly models get even more brownie points.

and the final rule..

8) Have fun!

After all this typing I'm getting hungry, make me some food!!

Cheers!

LOL i was thinking the same thing... nice. I might give this a shot... i have other stuff im working on but i should be able to find time between now an the 27th. Just out of curiosity could it be something to do with food?? What i mean is maybe a character doing something with food? (LOL like a bum eating beans from a can under a bridge or something!) haha i know this might be hard to judge just curious though.

Do I get brownie points for making 'special' brownies? *wink*

I instantly thought of Veggie Tales too, strange.

No ideas for an entry come to mind sadly...might have to think for this one.

An item of food, nothing more nothing less.. that does not mean that if you make a food item you can't render it in a scene that brings that item to life. but if you make an uber fantastic monster eating a 3d food item and the food item is the weak link in the pic, you will be judged on the food model, not the monster. But making a humorous scene or any nifty scene to accent your food model is a good thing.

Keep it simple, stop trying to 'bend' the rules.

Cheers!

Alright, I think I have a good idea now. I'm going to create a model of a food model. Hopefully that's not bending the rules.

Should have asked before I started but do sweets count as food? The model shouldn't take to long to complete, but I think the animation is gonna be great fun with these little blighters.

I suppose if a competition is based on static objects, a very nice render will probably earn you some extra brownie points.

But anyway, I can think of no greater inspiration for 3D food:

Neodelito, look at rule #7..

7) Game ready Low poly models get even more brownie points.

We are not going to set poly count limits but low poly models suitable for games will given special attention. So, no poly/quad limits, but we're going to try to 'encourage' you to make game-ready models.

Kapish? Cheers!

and here's the download

It is in 3ds format and uses a .jpg texture.

Do I get extra brownie points for 182,688 polys

Down to 2,116 polys (is this considered game ready?)

with a normal map

Still seems like a lot of polys for a tiny piece of candy

Callag, [ img] and [ /img] tags need to point to an actual image, your links are not showing.. I suspect you need to use URL or link to the actual .jpg/.bmp/.png or whtever file format you uploaded.

The double http tags and 2 .com addresses in one link would deffinatly make any link wonky.

I did a mod edit to fix the problem.

some ideas i used and some i didnt use, next are pictures of the progression of me creating the model

im not so good at texturing but i did what i could

and here is the render without texture

and here will be my final entry with texture

i know the texture is terrible because i was rushing but that is my final entry and its about 3800 surfaces in ac3d

Only 2 qualified entries for this compo.. and they made judging easy..

3D Master Poloflece Games: a Cucumber
Notes: Simple, clean, low poly, with both model and texture available for viewing. Nice job.
-He included both texture and model as well as some renderings in his download.

3D Best Model fancy music: Icecream cone (with ribbon and snowflakes.)
Notes: I love Ice Cream, and cones the addition of snowflakes and ribbon ties it all up. This is a nice very entry. Cheers!
-His model had more detail and was obviously more involved. Not including the texture excludes him from 3D Master, but he is to be congratulated for his modeling skill.

3D Best Texture NO Winner!
..No other entries included a model or texture, so since I made a point to reiterate the rules saying models, textures or both were required to be considered for winning. Only 2 entries met the requirements, these 2 entries win by default.

Cheers to the winners, now to think up a good compo for January..
