I figured I would consolidate my questions into one thread...

Blu Ray:
For Christmas I'm thinking of getting this PC blu ray player: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106326
The thing is I don't have a full HD monitor but a 1680x1050 monitor. So, will blu ray still look better on that resolution compared to a regular DVD?

Motherboard:
If I get the above blu ray reader then I may have used up all of my sata ports on my motherboard, so is this necessarily a bad thing? Could it cause damage to the motherboard?

Full 1080p is 1920×1080, so yes, you would see a substantial difference in quality, but you would lose the widescreen, or if you kept the widescreen, would lose a little bit of overall resolution. It would still be better than dvd's max resolution of 852x480

Thanks for the info! Didn't know DVD's were that low of a resolution

Why would using all your sata ports cause damage to the motherboard? What do you think they are there for?

I didn't think it would but I don't know much about the amount of power the motherboard can handle so I thought that maybe they were there as a last resort type of thing.

The power to the sata drives doesn't even go through the motherboard, theres a separate cable for that connected to the PSU.
