Hi all

This is a half coding problem, half Windows Problem, I want to be able to activate Advance Gadget Styles in BlueGui using a manifest file, as without it in my project, its missing something.

I understand that if i compile under XP, then Advanced Styles will be activated in Vista and Win7 aswell, But ONLY if is compiled under XP, Well i still have my old copy of XP so i would like to install it on my vista laptop, but i can see there being issues there as it already has a newer version installed, does anyone know if it would be possible to duel boot XP onto a Vista Machine, (Without having to wipe my HDD).

Sooooo much bother just to use a manifest file, someone should fix the BlueGui Manifest for Vista and Win7.

Just create a new partition through vista, and then place your xp cd in it and let it install on your new partition. That's what I did for me ( win 7 64 bit and xp 32bit )

Like Isocadia said, it'll work fine as long as you install on a new partition. I've done it by putting Win7 alongside Vista, I'm not sure if it'll go as smoothly because WinXp was obviously before Vista, there might be bootloader problems? I'm no expert.

First time I setup Vista along side XP it didn't go so well. I had tons of bootloader issues and apparently wasn't the only one. I considered running xp alongside with 7 for compatibility reasons, but haven't come across the need to yet. But I use Grub to manage the loading.

No, installing XP over vista will make vista unbootable. You can try to run repair after installing xp, it might fix the bootloader and make both OSes bootable, not sure offhand.

You might be able to install a custom boot loader like grub. But you're better off just installing XP then installing vista.

Maybe VirtualBox XP vm, compile on the XP VM to a shared directory between host and VM, then run from 7? Not certain how far the WineD3D emulation will take you if you want to run it inside the VM.

I have used the info on this site many times without problems, but if it fails don't blame me

That's what I suspected.

Windows generally doesn't care if any operating system is already installed, it just overwrites the boot information with its own (since Microsoft don't expect you to use any other OS ).

Actually, windows is pretty good about older windows OSes, but the reverse is not true, and other OSes like linux, yeah, it definately doesn't care about those
