Hi all,

We have just released this video of Bond1s latest model pack.

We should be releasing the pack in the next day or two (just some final tweaks being done).

Let us know what you think.

Viral Outbreak Video

This pack is only for FPSCX9.

It will NOT work in X10 due to it's use of shaders.

If you've bought the pack, you'll probably want to use the shadow shader for your own characters. I've included a template called "character_planarshadow_template.fx" in the effectbank folder included in the model pack. Here is a pic showing how it can be customized for your own use in Dark Shader:

bond1, when you said Lee added support in v1.17 for this pack, you siad the fixed update has your adaptive bloom shader instead of that old crappy post-processing right?

Yes, Lee has uploaded a small update to 1.17 that has my adaptive bloom shader instead of the old one, and a new scripting command that this pack uses to hide the blob shadow (HIDESHADOW = 1). You just need to redownload 1.17 and reinstall it: http://files.thegamecreators.com/fpscreator/FPSCreator_Upgrade_117.zip

Come on now GJ, you KNOW you want those shadows, you NEED those character shadows. Only luddites use the old blob shadow, it's soooo 1999.

bond1 I want know what happen to the diffuse map that had a CG look of texture? like the d2 texture map you have in the other model pack of the characters. if you have those diffuse map I will pay you for them for these characters. I really need those cg looking diffuse texture. please and thank you.

I didn't include regular D2 textures with baked lighting because this pack requires shader effects to work as shown in the video, and I figured no one would want to use these characters without the shadow shader and other effects shown in the video.

I can render out regular diffuse maps with baked in lighting next week when I'm off work, and give them to TGC as an add-on for the pack. It probably won't be till after Christmas though before they can add it as an update. And keep in mind that the scripts won't work the same way, and you won't get the shadows either without enabling full shader effects.

is there anyway you could email them to me please? I also understand that they wont work the same but Im okay with that I know how to script. Im working on a big project that call for me to use them another way. plus if it not to much to as can you tell me how you render out a diffuse map like that. please and thank you.

Yup. No FPSC game can consider itself to be BOTB material without the new dynamic character shadows. It was totally worth the 4 months of agony watching the youtube videos every night.

Haha. I want to see if I can get them working in my engine

That would be awesome.

However, I wont have a job til next year (nowhere to work until I'm 16).
Then i have to save up for a car. then I want to save up some money so I can get married. And while I'm saving that money I might shell out $20.00 for your awesomely underpriced pack

Edit: On the spiky character do you have a bone for each spike? because it seems like having that many bones would quickly drain performance for that character. Or do you have another master's trick up your sleeve?

bond1 I have got the shadow shader working with one of my models and I ahve illumination for the characters eyes and all looks amazing but I also have some transparent areas on the model (rib cage etc) before I used an alpha channel on the specular texture map and set transparent areas to Black (0,0,0) but doing this now does not make them transparent, I also have tried doing the same as an alpha on the illumination map but no results.

Where am I going wrong?

So to summarise - Normal, illumination, specular and shadows working great but not transparency with this shader.

Any help would be great.

Many thanks

Maximum bone limit is 60, but I'm not going anywhere near that. I use a dummy bone for each "clump" of spikes, and each spike bone is parented to it's nearest "skeleton" biped bone. Rotating the bones makes the individual spikes of each clump flare out in a chaotic way, looking more complex then it really is.

Here a screenshot of the rig in two different states:

It figures... the first person to try the shader uses it in a way it wasn't designed for. Transparency is hardcoded in this shader, it uses ALPHABLENDENABLE to have partially transparent shadows. That means you can't also use ALPHATEST transparency at the same time. So it won't work with transparency in that particular character. My best suggestion would be to model the ribcage with polys, rather than using a transparent texture.

bond1 this does not help me much I am afraid. The character is a skeleton and to create all the bones in polys would make the poly count very high, also I have holes in the clothes he wears again I need transparancy for these to look right, re-modelling is not an option on this.

Surely there is a way around this and keep all the great features of your shader?

If it can be done I am willing to pay for the work

Otherwise it is only good for solid poly models with no transparentcy designed into them..............even stock models will not work with this shader like the skeleton etc

Just thought I'd like to show what you can do with Bond1's awesome shader:

Requires the appropriate textures, of course.

I encourage people to make use of this shader!

@SOLODESIGN: Send me the character files you're using and I'll have a look and see what I can do. You will need an alpha channel in the DIFFUSE texture to specify transparent areas. Zip everything up and email it to me.

Nice one Lewis, can't wait to see other characters with this shader. Also, remember to re-download v1.17, since it now contains the HIDESHADOW scripting command, if you find that the blob shadow is interfering with these new shadows. Just place HIDESHADOW=1 in the character's appear script and it will kill the blob shadow.

Darn. I dont think the command is in Project Blue right now. That's what I'm using. The command is in the script, but the shadow isnt hiding. Is that the only way for the shadow to be hid?

Just brute-force it and make a fully transparent blob shadow texture to replace the existing one in the decals folder. Make sure it's in PNG format. I assume you'll probably want to use the shader on all characters anyway, so you can just overwrite it no problem.
