Well, the title says it all, how does a dll allow you extra commands?

Also, what are dll's in general? Im not talking about the compiler plug in type, but just in general?

A DLL is a collection of object files that interact with the executable related to it. People usually put their functions, classes, and other declarations in a DLL and their main functions in the executable. Visual studio and other compilers usually give you the choice whether to compile a DLL, library, or executable (via projects in visual studio).
