I got onto my PC today and this happened after a while. Here's what I did:

1. Installed Minecraft and played (for the first time) for about 20 or so minutes.
2. After that both of my screens froze and became distorted and there was color ripples everywhere
3. I restarted and uninstalled old drivers and installed newest drives (nVidia 9500 GT, BFG)
4. Opened PC and removed LARGE amounts of dust and cleaned it up a bit
5. Turned on PC and played minecraft for about 30min and then another freeze with color distortion (about 10min in the game, for a split second, it did the color distortion thing again).
6. Opened PC and turned on, card is pretty hot while running and fan is not spinning.

I recently installed "DJ Steel Control Drivers", and Java (same day as this situation).

Blue lines appear on white/light
Red lines appear on dark/black

Any help would be appreciated.

yo dude i worked with this before we call it artifacts where iam from. Basically this means your GPU core gets so hot it detaches a little from the board or some solder melted. your card is pretty much gone, but if you have a heating fan for soldering, you have a chance of saving it its a 50/50 chance but you have nothing to loose at this point. pour some flux around the chip (take the heatsink off first) make sure the flux gets a little underneath the chip. put the fan on about 350c, and hover it around the chip for 5 minutes. so the solder underneath melts back to where its supposed to be DONT TOCH OR PUSH DOWN THE CHIP you might ruin it. Make sure you spread the heat evenly around the GPU so move your fan around. I do it by holding the fan above each corner for about 5-10 seconds and when its hot enough i just move the fan over the core in circular motion. anyway do it, for 5-7 mins let it cool, wipe of the flux, get a working fan for the heatsink and you have a good chance of fixing it. i fixed a graphics card on my first try using this method.

you can do that yes. it will buy you some more time before your graphics card dies. Replace thermal paste on the GPU heatsink, clean the fan, make sure the fan works. Also some drivers for some cards (especially ati) allow you to control fan speed. if there is an opton or some app exists for it like unofficial driver (like ati tray tools) you can jack up the fan to 100% speed

It's sort of funny that your video card overheated while playing Minecraft...

Overheating of the GPU, faulty monitor, or a bad cable.

he sats it starts happening after a while and his gpu is hot. i put my money on the problem with gpu. i dont think its the monitor or bad cable. If you have an onboard GPU on the motherboard. use that and see if you have this problem reappear. or just if you generally have another GPU lying around somewhere, just stick it in and try it

Oh, must've missed that part. Yea I'll agree with everyone else on the GPU.

Many old games that don't use vsync end up using a lot of CPU/GPU power and cause a lot of heat.

Anyway, it looks like overheating to me. I had a similar problem before my graphics card finally died.

I had the same problem with the 8800GT, though it happened to me because of that series had a faulty core. I'm not sure if the 9 series had the same problem. If you were gaming with a 9500 you were probably putting it way beyond it normal uses. You might want to consider upgrading anyway

Every GPU can get a bad core,in this case you can buy a new one OR do the stunt and take off all plastic from the GPU,put it in the over for like 8 minutes at 180 degrees and assemble back. Should work.

Based on the fact it's a consistent pattern (with even spacing) I'm going to hazard a guess of cable or connector problem.

For overheating you'd expect something much more random / screwed up - whereas that image looks far too pattern-like

EDIT:

The above was based purely on your picture, but "2. After that both of my screens froze and became distorted and there was color ripples everywhere" does sound like overheating unfortunately

We had this problem once and solved it by baking the graphics card in the oven. I wouldn't reccomend that though.

i can see why it works. the mnethod i proposed with the soldering fan is pretty much the same. it is safer than the oven solution yes. the oven might fix the gpu but other pieces might fall off withthe melted solder. Now that i think about it even with missing pieces the card should work/ i tried breaking a graphics card once. cut off like 20 small chippy thingies. the thing still worked like it was nothing. Its only when i sorted out the core i finally broke it. so yeah i guess oven works too
