I am trying to block all web traffic except traffic going to a certain web site. Basically there are about 20 student computers connected to a server and the server needs to be configured to to allow the student to only access the student web site.

Any thoughts?

Set up a packet filter on the firewall of the server to drop any packets which aren't directed at the student website.

Could you explain how to do this? And do I need to delete all the current rules for the outgoing connections?

I'm not much of a security expert, but I think Firewalls are usually fairly simple. If you only want students to have access to the student web site then you should be able to delete all the other outgoing rules except the one you create.

As for creating the rule it varies, but using Linux IPTables you would want a rule which drops anything that doesn't go to the IP of the server for the student site. Like I said, I'm no expert so I'm not sure how you'd go about doing this, only blocking specific IPs.

The student website would be on the intranet right? Just block internet access. Isn't there a proxy set up? Are we talking about a Windows or Linux server? I'd need to know more about the setup to offer better help.

Why would you need to filter packets? If all users run through a firewall configured on the server then add a restriction to the firewall settings.

It's a small private school and a server computer hasn't been setup yet but they have an extra computer with Windows XP. I been trying to play around with Firewall Restrictions using my system which has Windows 7 and got it to block every web site from one end point to the other but I don't understand how to allow the address for the web site.
