Something funny i noticed about each thread created here (forgive me i was playing spore today..): We can compare the lifespan of each thread to its evolution! Its almost like a living thing (no not really but bear with me) whos traits determine weather it continues on evolving or it goes extinct.

Here are some examples: You can go to about any topic and see were the topic has evolved to something completely different since the original post. The japan earthquake thread turned into a discussion of nuclear physics (kind of)... The soda soda debate turned into a general beverage and health thread.

These topics have survived so long because of their ability to adapt. The soda debate did so by generalizing into a broader topic. The japan disaster thread has a more powerful advantage right now: constantly added info to discuss... though it too will perish once the tragedy of japan is in the past unless it can adapt to a more discuss worthy topic at that point.

I see the posters as the components to the organism.. the posts change its direction and more importantly whether it lives or dies. Some threads end before they even begin... unable to avoid moderators who hunt them to extinction... others die out more slowly the result of their own fatal flaws... one way or another they eventually all go extinct and make way for newer generations.

So yep... Im officially a frootloop..

Interesting viewpoint... I do hope that this behavior is only unique to the Geek Culture board, though. I certainly don't like it when my WIP threads start evolving into hideous debate monsters.

However, I have seeds of my own to tend to. I don't have time to be someone else's watering can.

It's certainly more obvious on this board - on other boards it can happen because a technical side issue crops up which then becomes the main topic of conversation. Such changes are inevitable but do make it difficult to use the search feature efficiently if it's the side issue that you want to find.

Does this make all of those 'special' posters that run out of anything clever to add to a debate and then later degenerate into petty namecalling and trolling; erm...cancer? Meh. I'm sure there's some kind of analogy pun to be made here about Darwinism but I can't find one in my head at the moment

But just think, you evolved from an apple.

Not true, The MineCraft has stayed true to it's MineCraft origins since the start, proving that MineCraft is perfect and can bear no improvement.

Main post is very true, another very clear example was the thread about what Europeans envy about America. Most people would know where that went
