I'm a little new here but so far I've been picking up everything quickly. I've read every manual, community guide, read me file and half the forum already and I'm still a little confused about a couple of things. So far you have all been a great help and I'm hoping you come through for me again.

I was excited when I saw Storyteller's script pack however despite my MANY attempts to get it to work I have had no success. If I replace the script the item just becomes "dead" and you can't pick it up at all. I am using V1.18 beta with Wasp mod. Has anyone else made the scripts work with that combo? From all the info I've read I believe you would place the script in the main ai field and should just work. Is there a step I'm missing?

Like I said, I'm new at this but everything else has been easy. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I attempted to post my question on the original thread but it's been locked due to inactivity.)

well im not shure if storytellers script pack is compatible with update 1.18 however i do use his script pack in update 1.17 so it should probly still work in update 1.18!

first of all i belive you need a script named (enter weapon pickup)
im trying to find the enterweapon pickup script on the forum for you!

what you do is you take a gun or weapon say you take a shotgun right click on the shotgun and under the main script you need to add the script (enterweaponpickup)

now after you add this script to your weapon find the entity you want to add to your game for example an empty box from the ww2 furniture b section right click on the box and go to the boxes main script and add your storyteller script that matches your entity for example (TheStoryteller01\Containers Items\CardBoardBoxCON)that is what the script for a cardboard box looks like add the script to the main section and now when you load up a game and pick up your weapon head towards the box or item you used and hit enter on it and the box will say whatever the script is meant to say!

ps, your problem was you didnt have the enterweapon pickup script attached to your weapon that is what allows you to read the scripts so when you would add the script and walk up to the box nothing would happen thats why!!!

So to use it you need a code attached to the gun you are holding? That seems odd. I know you can add script to an entity to require a button press to pick it up. I guess I'll do it that way and add either text or a .wav using triggers. I was hoping to do kind of a Borderlands thing where I would modify the specs on each gun you found and let you choose whether that was better than the one already had by putting the damage and accuracy in a pop up. I'm sure there are other ways to do it. Thanks for your help and being the only one to answer sic1ne.

hey big jay i use triggerzones to play my text also i think its easier! but if your having problems with storytellers script pack try this it is way easier and you can change the color of your text this program makes the script for you all you do is type what you want it to say and pick the color of your text

Speaking of his scrip pack, for some reason when I use his script that allows you to look at a box and get ammo from is, it freezes you and you can't move :/

@soviet what update are you running with?

are you using the enterweaponpickup script attached to a weapon before you try to click on the box?

i havent had any problems with anything yet it could be the update you are using or mayb the script is messed up or damaged try to clean your fps software and try it again! hope i could help out a little bit!

Hmm, no I am not, where is that script actually located within the folder structure? because I just made the box have the one script and made the gun not spawn at start.

I was doing the same thing as soviet. I put the script on the item but didn't attach the enterweaponpickup script to the gun. I'm not even sure if I have it. I have the newest version and wasp mod so I might. I'll check. I really liked Storytellers script. I'll look into it. I'll let you know how it goes.

sic1ne, I tried that out Textease just yesterday. I liked it. I'm still going to give the Storyteller scripts a try. I don't have enterweaponpickup. I'm going to look for it.

ok here is the script for enterweaponpickup the download is in the bottom right hand corner just hit the download button save the script to your desktop and put the script in the fps creator scriptbank ! try this scrip with your storytellers stuff and get back to me if u guys have any problems and still cant get it to work ill make a tutorial for you! also you can e mail me [email protected]

remember place the enterweaponpickup script in the main script section on any weapon that you are using! now when you want to pick up a weapon you have to hit enter on the keyboard instead of just walking over top of it! now that you have the script attached to your weapon you go to your entity folder pick the box or what ever item you want to use! then right click on the box or object go to the main script section and add the storyteller script that you are trying to use now when you walk up to the box or object hit enter on the box and it will read the text file if there is more than 1 line of text you have to hit enter multiple times to read the full line text!

ps i thought somebody told me once before that some scripts may not work with updates 1.17 and 1.18 so there maybe a few scripts that freeze up or stop working im not positive tho !!! hope i could help

The solution is much simplier:

ALL scripts included in the download share the same mistake:
its the colon after state=2 that shouldn't be there.

The weird thing is, that I never realized this mistake because I wrote the scripts for 1.16+Fenix mod and they work perfectly with that. If you don't believe this (as I did) check my demo game (as I just did myself) which is running without problems, although all the scripts used there have that extra "," in the state=1 line.

If I use the scripts with a new 1.18 beta (which I just did) I get the same freeze-showstopper result.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this caused and the time you guys wasted on trying to solve the problem.

EDIT: After compiling an old smaller test game with with 1.18 beta (10 in my case), I can assure you that they all work with 1.18 However I want to remind you, that most include the old global TIMER actions and conditions which should be swapped with ETIMER now that we have it.

And yes, the demo game I built with 1.16 Fenix can not be built with 1.18, because all of a sudden it goes WAAAAAYYYYYYYY over 2 GB

@storyteller do you need the enterweaponpickup to use your scripts propper ? i was trying to remember when i first downloaded your pack well anyways i tried to help out the best i could lol i was waiting on you to post !

To be honest I have no idea what enterweaponpickup is.

All my scripts simply are to be put into the "main" script of the entity to work.

They are however dependant on the PICKOBJECT condition introduced into vanilla FPSC with 1.18.

I just tried the scripts out on a wooden crate with a submachine gun "inside".

Works perfectly.

So please don't talk nonsense like this:

We use The Storyteller 01's scripts extensively in one of our developments, and all of them work as they should. The docs that were included with the pack were very clear and concise.

@storyteller sorry i dont know what happened i was just trying to help sorry if i was wrong!

scratch my post i tried the script again and everything worked fine it could of just been a mental error or fpsc bugging out sorry! but someone did mention something about enterweaponpickup and using it with your scripts on the forumboard thats how i got the enterweaponpickup script in the first place i tested the scripts again earlier and didnt get a chance to correct my post untill now well sorry for the confusion guys storyteller is the man who made the scripts and he knows best my apologies!

Thanks to sic1ne for helping me and Storyteller for clearing that up. I hope to try it soon.

To verify, I just need to remove the colon after state=2 in all of the scripts and the should work fine?
I just started working with custom HUDs and if I could get the code to work with it the presentation of my game would greatly improve.

I may even try RPG mod. I love the idea of an inventory system. Second question, if I use RPG mod do I still need to fix the scripts?

just to clear it up the enterweaponpickup is a script that you add to your weapon and it allows you to pick up a weapon or an item by pressing enter on the keyboard rather than walking over top of it the script makes your game a little more realistic its a awsome script to have in your scriptbank!

about the rpg mod im not shure that it is still available to purchase or download i do not wanna tell you wrong again tho lol
but i do know that the newest and best mod out is project blue it is $28 link to the mod is below. there were talks about maybe a future inventory system for this mod so stay tuned untill then but this mod is great for multiplayer and alot of cool things and scripts! i havent bought it yet but i am deff going to
