Have you setup shortcut keys for notepad or installed any shortcut key programs? Right click on the notepad shortcut under Accessories and then select Properties. Is a keystroke shortcut for it?

Brian.

I just realised this, has someone put a batch file in you startup folder? or a registry link to one at startup? I think you can do silly things like that with batch files.

Get on my level

Speaking of which... check scheduled tasks in Control Panel Administrative tools, these schedules dont depend on time alone, they can be event specific >.<

Good point, would have never thought about that. One time in DBPro i made a 'virus' that started notepad around two times per second; took my computer around an hour to shut down

But i dont think that's relevant...

I cant find administrative tools

Lol right after i hit post message i thout to search for it with the start menu, and BAM it was there

And i looked all over there, no Notepad stuff...

EDIT

I truly keep tiring myself out these days... ignore my question on OS above lol

Is Notepad still starting up for you? Try renaming notepad to something else.

heres an Idea... it has to be something running in your background, use task manager to eliminate unknown applications/services that are running ^^
word of caution though... do be careful what you disable, if in trivial doubt, just post back on here with a screen grab

You could try running MSCONFIG and turn off all programs that startup (except important things like your virus scanner). In the Startup tab all boxes with checks automatically load when you turn your computer on (see attached image). Check them off and hit apply and reboot.

I will definitely try that!

Well i didnt see anything that seemed to have nothing to do with HP or Windows, there were three ads that pop up when i start my computer that i unchecked, but again, nothing Notepad-ish...

Today I realized that you can lock a locked lock in a locker with a lock that is locked.

Have you tried running a spyware scanner like Spybot Search And Destroy?

Its probably not a virus, but an issue with one of your .INI files. Try this:

* Double Click on My Computer.
* Select Folder Option > View Tab.
* Under the View Tab select Show hidden files and folders.
* And also select Hide protected operation system files.
* Now you will be able to see the hidden destop.ini files.
* Open Windows 7 start orb and at the search type: shell:startup and press Enter.
* Inside the startup folder delete the desktop.ini file

Now restart your computer. It will not appear again.

Did this help?

Cheers

Desktop.ini sounds pretty important, are you sure?

Today I realized that you can lock a locked lock in a locker with a lock that is locked.

It just stores some basic resource data, windows normally creates a new one if you delete or move it, and there's usually one for every folder on your hard drive.
