I'm continuing work on my remake. It's a little tricky tracking down info since there's so many zelda game they tend to show up in search results way more often than the original.

When using the whistle to warp between areas, is there any specific pattern or is it completely random?

The last Zelda I remember playing it was specific spots on the map marked with numbers and you chose which one you wanted.

Nope, that's not the first or even the 2nd zelda.

Oh, I didn't see the NES in the title.

I just found a Zelda Wiki that covers all Zeldas.

Here's the info about the Flute: http://www.zeldawiki.org/Flute

Here's the info about Warping: http://www.zeldawiki.org/Warping

Those links are still to the wrong version. I looked up the original on that site and it didn't really much useful information.

Actually the link that Grog Grueslayer posted shows the warping for the right version:

(Under the sub heading of "The Legend of Zelda", which is the first game)
Quote: "A Recorder will warp to any dungeon that Link has cleared. If Link is facing North or West, he will warp to the next dungeon. If he is facing South or East, he will warp to the dungeon before the one he is at. Upon completing the Triforce, Link can summon the whirlwind to warp to the ninth labyrinth.[1] The Flute can also be used to reveal hidden secrets."

you can see that pattern in this video:

The last dungeon he completed was the 5th (which is the dungeon he is standing when he first uses the recorder)

I must've overlooked that tiny bit, my bad.

So far the video is showing that he has no control over the warping, but I'll finish watching it and see.

hmm...I always thought it was just random and took you to dungeons you have been inside of, but not necessarily cleared. I actually wonder if that wiki article is wrong. I'll check it out if I have a save somewhere...
