4 days ago, I started modeling and it is awesome fun

I appear to have a hand for it and if you want to take a look at my first 3 modeling attempts, visit this thread.

(I'm a bit proud of my models, so I want to show them around, have mercy on me )

Okay, but what I wanted to talk about are my last three creations:

I would like to know what you guys think of 'em and if the pro's on this section have som advices on them.

...but primary I would like to know how I could UV Map them.
I used "UV Mapper" before and I don't seem to get any good UV Map done. I have Milkshape and Fragmotion installed and I wonder if you guys could share a few hints and tricks on UV Mapping

And what is "unwrapping"?

This is my 4th Model using a "Box" Uv Map... it is the best I could do with that:

I had to use a texture resolution of 2048*2048 and it has a lot of errors due to the simplified boxy UV.

Looks great Wolf!

Making someone's day a little better because of one of my models means a lot to me.

i must say thats a good start mate well done

Quote: "And what is "unwrapping"?"

just another word for uvw mapping mate

try to think of your gun in small parts mate.

eg the barrel, select all the faces of it & apply a cylinder map to it ,then select the end caps of it & apply a planer map to them.you now should have 3 parts 2 discs & a flat square.

then try the mag select the front & back faces & put a planer map on them then select the 2 sides & do the same lastly the top & bottom faces ,if you have a stitch function stitch the chunks back together if not just move the parts into place.

you should end up with somthing like this

keep at your model this way lookind at each part & applying different mapping methords to them till your happy with them.then adjust the scale of the parts & move everything into place on your uv area.

hope this helps

cheers henry
