A few weeks ago I upgraded from IE8 to IE9. Ever since then I've noticed that some web pages take ages to load and posting messages in this forum is a nightmare. For example, if I'm typing something then try to use backspace to delete a few characters IE9 often jumps back to the previous web page. I've also noticed that the cursor often disappeared which made it hard to see where you were inserting text into a message. I'm not sure whether IE9 is the culprit or something else.

Anyway, I'm putting it to the test now - I've just re-installed IE8 and have had no problems typing/editing this message. I'll probably continue with IE8 for a few days to see if the problems really have gone.

Anyone else had similar problems with IE9? Is there a simple setting that needs to be tweaked somewhere?

Edit Could this be the culprit?

Caret Browsing

I'll run with IE8 for a day or two then try IE9 again and see if those settings can be changed.

In the meantime any other IE8/IE9 experiences welcome. [But please don't turn this into a FF/Chrome/etc discussion.]

I had the same problems with Chrome, oddly enough. I haven't been able to update due to media center and GTA4 compatibility issues with IE9.

I suspect these companies are trying to be too clever. This is the first MS update that I've had to reverse (although if my earlier edit is correct then a simple fix may be available so I might end up reinstalling IE9 after all - but the long load times are a concern).

At the moment though I'm enjoying having reverted to IE8 - everything is working as I want.

No loading problems here using IE9. The only problem I have hit when using it is when copy pasting syntax highlighted text from the forum. If I do and paste it into DBPro's ide, it is all on one line. Like if I copy/pasted this (see code below) into DBPro, it would all be on one line.

I have since switched to using firefox.

Well, you can solve that by first copying the text in WordPad, and then copy that same text from WordPad into your DBPro editor.

Cheers

No problems with IE9 here. Although I've noticed the backspace issue before - sometimes when clearing a form I'd go back a page, but I haven't really had that problem since upgrading from the beta.

Also, if you are running a 64-bit operating system, you may want to make sure you are using the 32-bit version of IE. I don't know if it is still a problem, but I believe the 64-bit Release Candidate lacked a good JIT compiler for Java script, which could explain the page slowness.

Yep. I've had that too.

Yep. That's what I'd resorted to doing.

I get that with the automatic windows update version which I assume is not beta.

At least I'm not alone with these issues.

I'll report back when I've checked the Caret Browsing thing mentioned earlier.

But it is a hassle, and if firefox doesn't do it then why does ie9? One thing I don't like about firefox but do like about IE9 is that firefox doesn't list the size of a download before you start downloading, IE9 will tell you the size.

It certainly is - and I usually remember only after I've just lost a whole page of comments in a draft post.

Incidentally I'm on IE8 at the moment and the cursor suddenly disappeared as I was typing this message. Means you have to concentrate hard to make sure your text appears in the right place. But I haven't noticed the other problems on IE8 yet.

Which drivers are involved with cursors? I upgraded my GFX driver at the same time as I upgraded to IE9 and life has been a long struggle since.

I'm beginning to feel my age.

This might be a forum problem because I've noticed this with different browsers.

That's worth knowing. I'll try to remember to pass that on.

I love using Windows Connect aka Shared View which is an amazing application, however because of some IE9 conflict I have to load my vista licence in a virtual pc and use it that way with IE8 not IE9 installed in the virtual pc... but I think I shot myself in the foot and installed IE9 as I havent had to use Shared View in a while but I am looking at alternatives like TeamViewer etc...
