Hey, I don't know if anyone else here is aware of the game, but if you're not, I just wanted to bring attention to it. It's a zombie survival game a little developer called The Indie Stone is working on. I encourage you to give it a try.

The developers have had a rough time with this game. It used to be on a server which you had to have an account to play, but due to piracy issues they were forced to remove that, now the pre-alpha demo is open for anyone to play, but they are working on a new update for paying users, which is also subject to constant delays.

Here's some more info on it, http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/25/how-project-zomboid-was-saved-by-steam-desura-and-fileplanet/

Here are some screens I got.

Apparently I was too loud, they found me.

Looks like they're all gone.

Nope.

My tragic death.

I'd also like to point out, these guys are some of the nicest people out there, when the piracy issues arised they said they don't care if you pirate the game, just as long as you don't get it off their server, apparently people didn't get the message. They even offered to give back people's money due to constant delays.

Remember, the game is in it's pre-alpha stages, so it's pretty rough around the edges, but if there's anyone tolerant of that it's other developers. There's also some swearing in the game, so if you don't want to see that...

By the way, watch the stove... That is all.

Multiplayer co-op is planned, but they need to get the single player sorted out first. Currently the game consists of the tutorial and free roaming around after that. In the next update they plan to have more character customization options, and eventually a bigger cities, more NPCs, etc... Instead of just the adventures of Bob and Kate.

Bit of a spoiler for what little story the game has.

And another, not story related though.

Oh, it's worth noting that you currently cannot drop items, but you can put them in containers.

The shotgun doesn't work either, it points east when you fire it so it doesn't kill any thing. Had to use the baseball bat all the time when I had like 40+ shells. I lasted 4 days 18 hours, but by that time the game lagged out due to the amount of zombies outside.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but I was working on a game almost exactly like this for droid. In fact, when I saw the screen shot, for a second I thought it was my game! So glad there are other people out there with the same sort of goals. I put my idea on hold in favour of games that will probably be more popular (selling out for cash).

I'll keep an eye on this. I don't really have the patience for alphas as bugs tend to bother me, but I'll be up for giving it a try when it's more robust.

This what how far I got with my engine btw ... very similar feel ...

Woah, this looks awesome! It reminds me of survival crisis Z (it looks like the website is down, so good luck finding a copy of SCZ).

This looks like a way better game though! I love watching some videos on youtube, because it looks like a genuine survival game. (running away from a mob of zombies and barricading yourself into a building, last-stand style)

I can never get this guy, I've read people on the Indie Stone forums saying to hide in the bathroom and hit him with the hammer. But I usually just kill Kate and move along

Yeah, the whole point of the game is pretty much the story of your death, which is pretty cool.

Looks pretty cool

Also, in case Cormorant stops by the thread... http://theindiestone.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2991&hilit=mod

Seems like a cool game, but how do you change key assignments? I can't stand to play using the arrow keys, and the game reads the actual keyboard letters meaning 'ZQSD' won't work for me.

Yes, and I can't use that for reasons already stated.

I mean if I press Z (which is in the same place as W on a standard US/UK keyboard) it reads it as 'Z' and doesn't do anything, instead of using scancodes.

Watched some of the vids yesterday. I really like the feel. The guys seems to be on the right track, but overall I thought it seemed to be lacking a lot of polish at this early stage. The graphics (smoothness especially) are terrible. Definitely going to wait to see if it improves first. As someone who's always wanted to make a game like this, I will be uber critical I know, because I have so many plans in my head of how it should be. I hope it improves though. Keeping my eye on it!

Apparently everyone has to lock their doors...
