Creepy Question, But Have we lost the ability to pass on our possessions after death?

With the release of digital media more widely in the forms of Music, Games, Apps, Ect which are purchased and downloaded, If i had a Physical Version, These would be inherited by the next of kin, but with things like iTunes i assume they simply wipe your account...

This is one of the reasons i dont like using things like itunes, as they claim they want the same rights for digital contents as any company would have for Physical items, to stop clones, copies, ect, but we dont seem to have the same protection, But i've noticed recently that no digital content companies seem to be asking for the same from the end users point of view.

My sisters one example, shes probably spent a total of a few hundred on music and apps over the years, but if she where to pass away, there seems to be no protection for us, (My sisters fine, this is just an example of the younger generations usage of downloaded content.)

I think this is a valid question, especially if you've purchased a large quantity of music on things like itunes...

Perhaps companies like apple should realize that if they want equal rights for purchased downloaded contents, then we should have the same rights as well

<End Rant>

if there is this thing where you have an account, you could just pass on the account? iam sure that would be against the eula but really now, who cares?

In most accounts, you can change your account information, right?

Lets use a real world scenario. If you have money in the bank or own property, you make a will. You create access to that cash or property in the event of your death. The same should hold true for virtual or digital property. Before you die, you pass on the account information or change it to the new owner.

yes you can indeed, still would go against the eula someway or the other..

oh and we are soon not allowed to trade game copies anymore... since "the company looses money" (what a load of bull, they loose no more money than the chair company does when i give away the chair. AND THEY DONT COMPLAIN.) they want that to be off the market x)

Agreed, But apple's just a good example, You have 1 apple ID, And im sure you wuldnt want to keep switching, And with the music industy moving more online, Alwell as game consoles, hence, you could loose the right to inherit as its illegal to pass on, even to next of kin in most cases as theres no Physical item.

Right, But not say, email Address which is usually locked, i dont think AppleID's can be transferred either, im not talking about using someone elses email after they've died to access any music, or apps whenever you need to, But the ability to transfer one account to another, so all purchased music and apps are transferred to someone else, otherwise what you end up with is having multipul accounts, and possibly having to continue to use dead relatives email, or say apple id's because you cant transfer contents under any circumstances, In reality most people will just never use the old account, they may not close it for legal reasons, but its as good as closing it and loosing all the purchased contents.

Sorry for the subject matter of death, but i think its a valid point for the geek culture board.

You keep saying you THINK this is what Apple would do, and you THINK they wouldn't allow you, etc. Have you actually looked into this, or are you just making it up as you go?

Perhaps read the EULA or maybe send an email to query it.

Some reason I am reminded of the south park episode where Kyle doesn't read the iTunes EULA and has found he's agreed to become a part of their new 'humancentiPad'.
