Does anyone here collect Coins? If so, what type do you collect or like the most? Do you use any type of software to track/archive your collection?

I like money and really enjoy collecting coins, especially the older types no longer in production, such as Half Cents, Two and Three Cents, Half Dimes, Twenty Cents, etc. I have more wheat cents than I can pick up, many of them uncirculated rolls. Some of my favorite series are Bust Halves, Franklin Halves and Liberty Standing Quarters.

I'm curious as to whether anyone here collects coins as well. Perhaps we could make some trades?

Brian.

I collect coins, but you sure limited the number of replies by adding the American coins tag to the beginning.

I clicked on it thinking it was talking about Mario. I have a collection of wheat pennies but that's about it.

Sorry, I only have a hand full of foreign coins and know absolutely nothing about them, but feel free to post about your collecting habits or anything. I have some very old British Pennies and I'll probably post some scans shortly. Maybe someone can shine some light on them for me.

EDIT: "US" qualifier removed from initial post.

My great grandfather used to collect roman coins. He used to find them in our local ruins and plowed fields. He once sold them for quiet a fortune to the city of trier.

I have also found a coin while playing in the garden as a child. It's from 1704. Not american though, but hey! Screw it.

I love collecting money. I have a coin from Nazi Germany and a coin dating back to the 1800s. I probably have about 300 coins.

It's great to hear that other here collect as well. Here are a couple of scans from my foreign bag (which I know nothing about).

I believe this is the oldest one and I think it's 1774.

And a couple more examples...

Fuzz,

Please do. I love to see money.

I have some paper too. Am I rich or is this not worth the paper it's printed on?

I collect coins and bills too! Everything of mine is sadly locked up in storage in Vancouver, but I scanned a complete set of North Korean currency that I smuggled out in 2007. This set was recently devalued and they made a completely new set, so I didn't think I was breaking any rules by scanning them (their paper value is worthless, but I think they're rare and valuable to collectors all the same).

Not sure if I can link from Flickr, but I'll try anyway:

I love collecting money. Sadly, I often have to spend it shortly afterwards...

I've simply never been lucky or funded enough to start a collection.

Jeku, WOW! I would love to have a North Korean collection to put aside my South Korean one. My wife is from South Korea so those were easy to get.

CoffeeGrunt, I started with one coin. I would go to the local coin shop and buy old wheat pennies for a few cents (back then) and every chance I got I would upgrade them or buy one I didn't have yet. Now I have a cent collection from back into the early 1930's to date in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. They're getting too expensive to keep adding to or upgrading now, but maybe later.

Brian.

Also, I posted a question on Yahoo Answers but haven't got response yet. Does anyone know if there is a vending machine that's made to dispense coins like a wheat penny? I know that a plastic egg type machine would work, but that would be an added expense.

i used to collect coins, My days wrking as a cash register operator in mcdonalds helped my coin collecting as some people would pay with very old change. I even got a really old buffalo nickel once(not the new one but the old one)

But alas, i have lost my collectionduring the moving to russia (well i doubt the russian customs checkpoint would allow me to take them across the border. I still make weak attempts to colect coins when i find some interesting coins. My Grandma tho, she has an impressive collection. Not only she has coins from all over the world but she has coins of almost every Tsar since Peter the great. Those coins are from like 1600s

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

Stay on good terms with Grandma.

When I had a grocery/convenience store some years ago, I had this one customer who would come in and buy cigarettes with silver Peace Dollars. I figure they were stolen, but you never know.

There's too much month at the end of my money.

I have a few chip's from las vegas, a single $ and a few very old coins that are kept safe in the attic. Can't say im a avid fan of searching old coins out. I guess i'm not that kind of intellectual
