A few days ago I started the final phases of finishing a small game that turned into a pretty big game. Anyway, because we spent alot of time and effort on the game I decided to take a chance and see if any game review sites would look at it. Hehe well today I got a email from IGN yes IGN and they want to take a closer look at the game and requested a copy to test and review. They also told me they would likely place it on their video reviews section with a game review. So I'm honestly pretty hyppedup about this game.

The orginal idea behind the game was me saving my self a few bucks. A long time ago I purchased a game called Ant Wars. Well that was like almost ten years ago and I obviously no longer have proff of purchase. So I start looking at the game and decided you know I can make this game. I dont need to repurchase the game. In fact i can build a better version of the game. So after lots of work, I built "Ant Farm". A ant farm sim game were the ants ultimate goal is to take over the world. Now unlike Ant Wars which was very limited on well everything, mine is more like a giant sandbox literly. Except in this sandbox we capture and enslave insects, animals and humans lol Anyway, Im going to make a video for them my self to better explain the game for IGN when they review it. Wish me luck.

Personally I'd be more excited to have my game mentioned/reviewed in the TGC News Letter, and critiqued and enjoyed by my friends here. Then I'd be excited if IGN was interested in it, and it would be a bonus if they liked the game as well.

Congrats on the news!

The help menu info is a little dated. Here is a current break down on everything:

Over 40 levels

46 Enemies Currently

Network Battle Unfinished

270 New Possiable Messages Maybe more outcome is based on level for most

30 goals to complete 5 min timer
Goals just give extra bonus

Not 100% on how many current locations as I broke them up into sections but I think its around 25 locations to choose from. Each location gives something special every new day.

4 working Ant types and 3 Military type Ants

Ultimate goal/storyline is your ant farm is trying to take over the world.

Ive been testing it for a few days now and Ive only got up to level 24. So its not a beat it in one night type game. It takes a good amount of time to get to level 40. Once network battle is in Im sure the game will bring on a whole new wrold as well. I plan to setup a "betting system" for network battles. This will allow you to bet aginst your friends and win stuff.

Also I need to correct my self, the email was not from IGN. I thought it was but I mis read it. He was comparing his site to IGN. anyway they said they have 70,000 viewers though. So 70,000 is a good start if you ask me lol So it may not be IGN but still im pretty happy about it.

Rule 1#: Don't show the menu as the first screen shot (unless it looks amazing), no one is really interested in the main menu when they want to see what the game looks like.

This is much improved from your previous title showings. Still, the old-school graphics, buttons, form gradients, large text and odd colors don't do anything for me, but others may like it.

Best of luck with this.

I offically hate Fraps now. Here is the video but Fraps runs so sluggish it looks like it has bad animation but its not, its just fraps being crap.

This will give everyone a better idea about the game. Enjoy.

I guess we will not be stepping on any ants in the future, particularly when the "Red Army 34rth Mechanized Brigade" arrives to attack. Wonder if my can of raid would have any effect on the tanks.

Best of luck on this.

I'm impressed a bit Old_School... It's definitely a better looking game than just about everything you have shown in the past.

You still need to stop making those awful gradients you put in every single program. The mass majority is always going to find them quite ugly looking. Seriously though, you really need to work on background art lol. I know you aren't an artist, as you have said before, but I know you can do better than that.

Other than that, the game looks decent enough to play. And that means a lot coming from me because I generally can't give 99% of any indie games five minutes of my time. Which is odd enough given I visit an indie game developers forum every day lol.

Well congratulations and I wish you the best of luck.

Feedback, because we seem to do that with anything people post it seems :

I'm sure for art I'm sure there's something generic that's simple and easy to do. Gradients work when the artist knows what to do with them, I would suggest even just a plain colour is better. But hey, this is a Games Programming forum and it has art sections, there's 3D chat and 2D All The Way, you might be able to find feedback somewhere on the forum and advice to improve your skills elsewhere.

I'm not much of an artist myself either, 3D Art maybe (but that's after a long cycle of not being brilliant at it). I'm working on a Text Adventure where I'm going to be using my own backgrounds and at the moment I've just decided to keep it very simple - for example, my 'citiscape' is just 4 black rectangles with a dim night sky like gradient (but not an overpowering contrast between the 2 colours). Very simple, but it isn't an eye-sore.
