Tax season is near and I need to decide what to blow some money on, on behalf of my DBA.

Help me decide, system updates or just go ahead and blow the account out of the water with a loaded Dell XPS Workstation? [link]
I went through and customized the rig and had it loaded down with all the goodies, it rang up to just about $5k.

The only reason I am considering a pre built system from Dell is mainly for the warrantly and insurance coverage. Since, if purchased I will be depending on it.

With me starting the IT Program this Jan. I am sure I will make use of the rig as well.

What do you all think? Any other pre-built rigs you would suggest? I am looking to stay between $4k and $5K.

As far as digging deep for more software, honestly Ac3d and fragmotion are working great for me, but I know a system like an XPS will laugh at them, but being able to actually run UDK and Unity will be great.

Some of the software from Pixalogic and AutoDesk would be nice as well, but I would hate to purchase them and be entirely lost as how to use them to their full potential.

I highly recommend you make a large, charitable (tax deductible) contribution to the Buy Brian A Boat (BBAB) fund.

On a more serious note, I would recommend you buy a more.... shall we say, reasonably priced system so that in 2 years you will have an inexpensive outdated system as opposed to a very expensive outdated system, and find something better to do with the rest of your money. Like, put it away for a rainy day/retirement.

Brian.

Well I already plan on donating some to WWP.

And the XPS is upgradeable, without it voiding warranty or insurance.

C'mon I am looking for an excuse to have something that nice.

Xplosys, give me your physical mailing address, you might get a Shiney Boat for Christmas!
