Post the things that motivate you to complete projects/tasks, overcome obstacles, face challenges etc...

It can be anything, a link, a personal story, a quote, a poem a song.... anything that helps you see things through.

I'm hoping that when procastination comes looking for me or you... We can come here and get inspired.

That's the only thing that keeps me going sometimes.

Sadly ya got 574 stalkers and counting. I can't ever get anyone to track what I do in any genre. I pick up the usual comment here and there over a large time period. Nothing catches on... I guess it would be a bit more affective to compile everything together. Still, it's like begging for candy after Halloween. The candy would be a bit more meaningful if they ever came back for more but, never do. Makes me wonder why I try so much, well who knows. So inspiration, apart from the occasional lemon drop - music. Just about anything to keep out the hatin really. But if you can get some of those sound blocking earbuds that people get picked off by trucks wearing(just look both ways first, please), it can be a good place to go. I don't share that much work here, but it seems whenever I put all my dedication into something I draw a blank. I've found this ^^^^ really works for me, don't know about anyone else. Inspiration ought to come from what you love most, so riddle me this, what is it?

Motivation is a weird one...I mean I could become a world champion in procrastination. I lack a terrible self-discipline, though if I'm expected to do something then I'll do it, using the line "do it whenever you want" is probably a poor line to use because you'll be waiting a while.

Generally when it comes to self-motivation, tea + loud music to drown out anything that'll break my concentration. Said music should not be too catchy, not something I'll air guitar to or even embarrassingly...sing along. Loud music sometimes has to be through headphones just to be consider of others, but it's actually a pretty good for focus for me. However, there are anti-distraction tools out there - one I played with basically blocked distracting websites for 40 minutes, unblock them for 5 (as a break) and then again for another 40 and during those 40 minutes I'm meant to be working.

That was an interesting one, though I've totally forgotten what it's called.

For writing I sometimes use a tool called 'WriteOrDie', it's an amazing concept and shame I've no seen anything similar for other media. Basically you set yourself a target word-count a time limit and a grace period. The grace period is the time it'll let you off for not typing. If you stop typing the program will give you a push to get you typing...except for in Kamikaze mode, which will start deleting words once you've paused for longer than the grace period, which means you best well get your butt writing.

Just want to point out Jobbs is not the co-founder of pixar. Apple purchased pixar from disney and rebuilt the company. So techincaly from what I read (history of pixar) he would not be the co-founder. But this is about motivation. I vote for Bill Gates for motivation or George Washington. Those are my two favorite people.

A lot of times I visit the Work In Progress board to find some of the awesome projects that people are working on, especially the ones that are just made by one person. It's very nice to see what can be made with time and dedication.

It depends. If it's work related, my motivation to complete something is to get paid. Otherwise, if it's a freebee or personal project, my motivation is always how good it's going to feel to be done with it.

When it comes to game building, looking at the WIP as ionstream said helps big time with the motivation. The reason i havent legitimately completed any real games is because 3d collision detection and 2d sprites and images are a pain to mess with lol!

My motivation in life is a deep faith in humanity and a great lust for life, freedom and adventure. I know that I have it in me and I know that I can do great if I only want to.

For videogames...well, thats a long story but to cut it short: Venting out my creativity and having a fun hobby.

I get inspiration from almost everything... even simple things like ...my car or a plant fascinate me,...how it works, how its strucktured, how I can incorporate it in any of my designs.

For storys: Conspiracy theory nutcase websites...you get the greatest ideas for game storys there

agreed,,, I want to add some personal thoughts too: When I gain new knowledge from reading books about game development, surfing the web seeing what other people create from watching clips on youtube and the TGC website, playing cool games like skyrim and such.

Game creation is about, 3dmath, programming (Science), making up storys and characters from your imagination, making game music (Emotional Creativity) ,,,, I love them both! So this is perfect for me
