Hi all,
I have a computer problem that is giving me trouble and would like some though from others.

Story goes...
Got home from work and switched on pc. It worked fine. About 2 mins into web browsing it reset itself. Restarted for 2 secs and reset(2 or 3 more times before i intervened)
after establishing that the machine would not start i took the side panel off and sniffed, no burnt smell anywhere.
I started brainstorming, it has been raining heavily for days and is extremely humid.
1: Could condensed water in the psu have shorted something? (no visible condensation on motherboard)
there was no bang on the first failure, but not sure if it would with water.
2: did a powersurge occur during the storm and fry my pc?
My power board has an untripped surge protector and nothing else on the board is damaged. The pc started once which i think would rule it out. I only entertain the possibility because my cloths dryer died the same day.

The pc is an upright and dust and loose screw free, very unlikely to be a short on the mb(but can't rule it out).

I have replaced the power source with a brand new one and it still just powers on for a second and shuts down. Which seems to leave the motherboard as the culprit.
When it powers on the cpu and gpu fans both start. I would have thought if the mb was dead the fans would do nothing.

This is the point im at now.

Very strange problem and circumstances.
Any experience, thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou
kezzla

Are you using windows 7? Does your mainboard have any bios- failsafe's? (mine shuts down if the cooling vents go below a certain RPM frequency) Did you install any new hardware lately?

Can you enter BIOS?

Thanks wolf,
im running window 7.
No new hardware changes.
It doesn't make it to bios nor does it beep. Im not sure of any bios failsafes, there are none mentioned in the mb user guide (h67ma-e35) model no ms-7680.
Ill try looking up more on the bios.
(using my phone with net slower than a 56k modem )

Try looking for the bios reset jumper/switch

try this for now..
Of there is a built in graphics chip... remove your dedicated card and try that as well...

Will investigate more after you try these two where possible

I really hope its not the mb but its starting to look like it ;(.
Thanks for looking into it guys

I've had that problem before, sounds like something is draining the power. The problem I had in the past was my HDDs, one of them fried and until I unplugged it, my computer would boot (in the same manner you described).

Probably worth trying to remove as much as you can from the mobo and see if it will boot (including any USB devices, RAM etc).
If that fails, then it probably is something to do with the mobo.

Hmm.. try removing each ram stick assuming you have more than one... and pick one insert in in slot one... (remove power cord between each insert and removal and wait several seconds til all leds if ny go out...). Try to power up... if same result... repeat placing the same stick in slot two and so on... and then if it fails all again remove that stick place it aside and repeat with another stick...

This will eliminate faulty sticks or slots... is all fail then assume your sticks are fine and its the board at fault...

Check every connector on your power supply especially if its modular and reconnect every cable like the cpu 4/8 pin connector...

Ideally stick a heater in the same room and turn it on for several hours and ensure the computer gets most of the heat.... try to dry it out of course while its turned off...

Try these... also try to reslot your cpu... after the memory checks...

EDIT

Hi BiggAdd ... yeah do what he says too
