After what I've been through trying to make elemetary 2D games and finding out how simple 3D really is, my advice is to make some changes to your plan. Fist off, what are you using - DBClassic or DBPro?

I would try and get some special packages for it, I think they are also available for DarkBasic with some standard graphics. In Click & Create there where also little fighters available.

Try editing them in your own characters for fun for starters, and work from there. I've learned a lot from just fiddeling with graphics before I went over to 3D

And you can fiddle a lot with royalty free animation packs who just deliver the stuff frame for frame, easy to 'key' on the fly stuff for people who wanna start with something good.

Btw a friend of mine once made a fighter with pictures he made and digitized. You could also do that with a digital camera and have the camera stand on a tripod, with a white sheet behind you. (wear colorfull or black stuff yourself) thats easy to paint the surround stuff away for keying, and just make picture frames.

It's always fun to beat up your pals in your own fighter game!

It is well worth it to get the hang of 3D modeling. If find that you have skills in it, 3D modelling could be a future career!

Heck, you could model fighting characters as simple as robots for a One Must Fall retro (now I think I'm going to attempt that one day).
